Moved here because it was a gated community and looked nice on the outside. I just love the security gates at this property. It is so secure that no one gets in. Well, unless you are among the 50K residents of Galveston that knows the 6 digit code since management refuses to fix the gate. The paid assigned parking is another plus. That $25 dollars goes to ensure that your space will be here when you are ready. The only problem is, there are no signs. Management only put up signs for building 1 and 2: the sold buildings. Let me rephrase that, trying to sell. So people park in your space.
The best part about this property is the wake up service. It has become a nightly ritual of the fire alarm going off 3 days in a row. Tonight, 12/11/2007, was the worst since it was at one in the morning. The management has our backs covered though. They issued a letter on December 10 to let the residents know that our safety and security is number on with them. They did this by, and I quote,
"As you may know we are experiencing technical difficulties with the fire alarm system. In the interim of this repair, the fire alarm system will be down for a period of time, so please be very cautious."
What does this mean' "be very cautious". What a joke. How are they to know there is a fire if the system is off. Well, they are not as dumb as they appear to sound. The alarm went off this morning, so it is on.
One last plus about the property, the fire alarm is monitored, says the management. However, you have to call 911 to inform them that the alarm is going off. The three times I called they had no idea that it was going off. As a matter of fact, the first night it went off it took the FD 30 minutes to come out because they did not receive a call. Until I called! k6tKKzmJrmATU2ap682S

I live here too and the fire alarm incident was AWFUL. It startled us awake and out of bed. We too laughed at the letter they distributed. Regardless the issue was resolved. We are happy living here. No place is perfect and this one is a heck of alot closer to it than other places on the island!!

The fire alarm was the worst. It was actually going off during the day as well, there was just no one home. After the 1am incident (during finals week) it went of at 9am and again at noon and then the fire marshall showed up at 1. The issue wasn't really resolved either, just covered. Whomever installed the fire alarm must have used the wrong wire for the pull alarms and so the solution was just to remove the pull alarms in building 3. This was after a big sit down with the fire marshall (who wasn't amused with the situation and especially the letter) and management and presumably with the owner. Shortly after the fire marshall left, maintainence was running around getting random things "fixed". It's all very fishy.
An example of this "fix" is, on the fifth floor of the third building when it's raining. The roof is still really new and you'll notice the sound of water dripping on the ceiling when it rains. Last time it rained, it didn't just drip, it was a stream of water coming through the ceiling. The light fixtures around the elevator all have water stains in them that indicate close to half an inch of water has collected in there. They were cleaned shortly after the fire alarm incident and said they "fixed" the leak, so the water stains are only a few weeks old. Imagine what the ceiling looks like up there.
I'm not even going to get into the dog urine in the elevator. But, even I have to admit that things have started to improve since the fire incident and Daniel is running the show (or it appears he is anyways).
I was paying the same amount for a rental house in Austin that was over twice the size. Even on the island there are some nice rental houses for the same price. If I could break my lease, I would.

Galveston girl, you are right, things have improved since the guy in the office became involved. What happened to the blonde manager? Any time I go to the office for anything she is never around, what a waste of my rent money going towards her paycheck!
