Stealing money'

My husband and I filled out an application and paid a $35 processing fee. The employee informed us that there were several other prospective renters and we should put a deposit down to "hold" the apartment. So we put down an extra $150 security deposit. Later that night they called, informing us that our application had been rejected, and that THEY WOULD NOT REFUND OUR $150! That's ridiculous, since we paid that money to "hold" an apartment that we wouldn't be living in! When we drove from Houston to talk to the manager, there were two cop cars waiting for us. The police pulled us over and told us to leave immediately or we would be arrested for trespassing! My husband and I are two clean-cut, young people. I've never even received a traffic ticket! Yet they found it necessary to humiliate us on top of stealing our money!
The apartments look nice, and the staff was friendly (at first) but my advice is DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY, BECAUSE YOU WONT GET IT BACK!

Thank God the property manager wasn't assaulted. I understand she had her life threatened. Oh.....you forgot to mention your criminal background in all of your nastiness. From now on, you should not apply without letting your criminal history be known. Most properties are not allowed to take people with violent backgrounds.

In light of the criminal background and the other problems that occurred it is certainly understandable why the application would be rejected, however the security deposit really should have been returned.

The back of the application is a contemplated lease agreement. It clearly states on the back of the application that the deposit may or may not be refundable. The applicant signs right underneath that. It states information on the application guidelines regarding the criminal background. This is all thoroughly reviewed by the management who goes over your paper work with you. It also states that neglectting to put pertinent information is also considered falsification of information and is grounds for your application to be denied. I ask you....who is the one trying to pull a scam? Driftwood will not lease to criminals.
