We moved to these apartments on a moments notice after our house in St. Bernard Parish in Lousiana was destroyed by Katrina and Rita. First, we were charged $25 extra per month than everyone else. We brought our small Shih Tzu's with us but had to leave behind our Cat who couldn't travel and our large dog (half lab and half huskey) because he was too big. We did not have a problem moving the dogs in but shortly after someone offered us a homeless puppy to help us deal with the loss of our big dog (we found out he was found dead in the house on 10/24. This new little puppy has raised our spirits and helped us detect seizures on my13 year old daughter. We were recently told we had to get rid of him for contridictory reasons. First we were told by the manager it was because he would grow to be over 20 lbs, which who knows, then we were told it was because we weren't supposed to have over 1 dog but they let us have to from Katrina. So he would make 3 dogs. Nowhere in the the lease did it say we couldn't get another dog. The manager has talked about different people's personal lives to other tenant's. She kicked out our K-9 officer because he was "being too aggressive" (doing his job) then she says it was because of other reasons. She is consistently contridicting herself and letting these apartments go to hell. There are drugs sold in here left and right in the middle of the night. Everyone and anyone knows the gate code and the gates are always open anyway. People hang out and make noise in the courtyard and parking lot at all hours. It is getting worse and worse, the manager has been notified by multiple tenants at multiple times and she tries to say that noone tells her. I am locked in by lease and vouchers (since I'm still paying my house note). We have had a horrible life changing situation since Katrina and initially the manager wanted to help. Since then she has made it very hard for us. This is about one little terrier dog helping one of thousands of families who lost everything. God forbid should anything similar happen to this manager. Then and only then will she understand and have a warm heart. Right now it is cold as ice.

My son and I moved away from The Pointe in late October, 2005, I am in another state now, but we were great friends with the K-9 officer, also the maintenance manager AND the manager of the apartments, so I'm sorry to hear all this. However, I simply could not read your complaint all the way to the end, because... Are you SAYING that you left your dog in your house, just MOVED AWAY, leaving the dog to DIE? To be "found" dead? Gee, you poor thing! Yeah, you really needed another dog, a nice new puppy to make you feel better, poor you! So why aren't you in jail? How on earth do you live with yourself? Good thing cats can fend for themselves, more or less, because YOU, sir or madam, are guilty not just of animal abuse, but an unheard-of capacity for profound self-love and instantaneous self-forgiveness! Besides, when I lived at The Pointe, we had 2 cats and paid a stiff pet deposit to keep them, money that we did not recover on move-out, because naturally, our kitties had done some damage to carpets and door frames. Pets are ALWAYS hard on an apartment, no way around that. You don't fill up an apartment with more and more pets, not if you're sane and rational. You are a very selfish, narcissistic person. I agree--go back to Louisiana. Try not to abandon your pets when you go. (Yep...I'm a week late and a thousand dollars short on this one! So terribly sorry, everyone, about Hurricane Ike. My heart is broken. Am praying for all you folks.)
