Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009
We lived at this apartment complex for several years and, at first, it was pretty nice. The atmosphere began to change when Newport Property Ventures (spelled Alex Rodriquez) bought the property. The first indication of changing times was the cancellation of the senior citizens discount.
The real downfall of the complex was hurricane Ike. It caused the tenants on the first two floors to be evicted with no notice. The evicted tenants were offered no assistance in finding a new place to live even though Newport has two other properties in the Houston area that were undamaged. They were told that they were on their own.
We were lucky in that our only damage was the loss of the refrigerator due to food spoilage--electricity was off for two weeks. When we inquired about a replacement, we were not offered a new one but one from another apartment that "wasn't too bad".
Our solution was to buy a referidgerator on ouw own.
As the damaged apartments were repaired, the new tenants seemed to be largely government supported--either section 8 or FEMA coupons--which were never accepted there before. It became scary to walk on the grounds.
Then the owners decided to remove the stucco siding and replace it with concrete plank siding. In so doing, what little insulation that was there was removed.
Our electric bill jumped about thirty percent.
In short, the complex is now, basically, a project apartment with dirty grounds,
lkess than desirable neighbors and a manager that seems to be overwhelmed by the requirements of the job.
