I am a medical student and chose the complex because of its proximity to UTMB. As far as that goes, it is awesome. If you stay on the side of the complex near the Field House fields, it is an easy walk or bike ride to campus. I can be ready to round in about 7 minutes from leaving my door. The maintenance here has always been fine- they usually take care of whatever I have a problem with pretty quickly. The staff is very nice- always willing to help me out in any way I need. The building themselves are REALLY old and it shows. There are some shoddy repairs going on, especially in regards to AC and drywall. Staying upstairs will save you a lot of headache, mainly because of the old plumbing which results in a few leaks. You really get what you pay for here though- at 600 and change with all bills paid (gas, water, electricity, cable), it's pretty tough to beat. Unless you want to stay out on the West End, where there are much nicer apartments, usually at steeper prices, this is the best place to stay near UTMB. Many of my friends have lived at other apartment complexes down here on the East End and moved into rented houses because of various nightmares.
So- definitely my 1st choice for an East End apartment near UTMB. Certainly not a resort though... Then again, nothing is on this side of the island. :)
