Positive & Negative Things You Should Know

I have lived here for almost 2 years. There are positive as well as negative things about this complex. Keep in mind, no one place will be perfect.
The reviews posted before early-2008 in regards to management refer to a "lady" manager that used to work here & had absolutely no regard for the human kind. I personally think she was a sociopath, but I'm no expert. Luckily, I only had to deal with her for a few months.
POSITIVE:
1. I feel relatively safe here: no break-ins that I know of & no creepy people walking around. They don't even have a gate & that's a good sign.
2. The staff is nice & sweet if you're nice to them, but they are overworked & understaffed. The maintenance guys are nice, but seem overworked & busy as well.
3. Rent is decent, but the only way I could get away with only a $50 increase on rent upon signing a new lease, was because I had a lot of issues when I moved in.
4. If you get an apartment with a sun-room, it's very pleasant aesthetically, but it will be much more influenced by the temperature outside (hotter when it's hot, colder when it's cold), so beware of that. Nothing they can do about it.
NEGATIVE:
1. Make sure you see the actual apartment you move into first, because mine was dirty when I moved in & I had to clean it myself. It was horrible!
2. They have a major problem with the water pipes in the complex & although they are trying to work on it, it's still not working properly. It takes 15-30 minutes before I get any hot water in the shower & sometimes I don't get any at all. It takes about 2-3 minutes for the sink. It's a waste of water & time & that is probably why the "utilities" bill is around $70 constantly. I know I'm probably paying for my neighbor who has 2 kids and guests over every single day. Some of them park on my assigned spot.
3. Assigned parking spots can be an issue: there's no way to prevent other people from parking in your spot, no towing system. Sometimes I leave notes on their car window to move their car. It doesn't always work...
4. There are constantly loud noises in the bathroom coming from the pipes, probably. The noise is quite scary.
5. If something breaks, you probably will wait for 1-4 weeks or more for it to be fixed. Each time something was broken I notified the manager, the assistant-manager & the maintenance guy & it still took weeks to get it fixed. Every time I reminded them of not fixing the issues, they had that surprised look on their faces as if they had forgotten about it. They probably did because they're so overworked & understaffed.
6. The A/C system must be old because it's too cold while blowing cool air & too hot while it's not or vice-verse for when it's blowing heat.
It's not a bad complex to live in, but really do your homework before you move in; discuss deposits, fees, credit...everything & please ask to see your actual apartment first!

well at least the manager is gone. That seems to be the general point of agreement with all comments. Hopefully maintanence will get better. My suggestion is anyone who wants stuff fixed, PUT IT IN WRITING, make copies for yourself and management. Go to office and give it to them and verbally tell them. Then in 2 days. you remind them by giving them the written request again. If in 2 more days, you still dont have it fixed, you have legal right to break your lease. (depending on what needs fixed) ie water, toilet, locks, etc.. Trust me, i have been down this rode and you have to have everything in writing. Keep good records. It will be your biggest weapon!
