Gone WAY downhill lately - RAT PROBLEM!

I am the one that wrote the previous review, "Good place to live so far." Well, that has changed.
A) The management is not nearly as friendly or helpful as they used to be (different people now)
B) maintenance is now so understaffed that I've been waiting 27 days to have a request fixed
C) there is a rat problem in my building that they have barely lifted a finger to fix (they laid traps which aren't doing any good).
D) despite all these problems, they have raised rent by over 20%.

I am serious, there are rats, the traps did catch one in my apartment at one point which was just horrible. After that they seem to have stayed in the walls. So disgusting. They tell me they are not licensed for poison, which means they will not pay an exterminator who is.

I am not a crazy tenant either, I have never had a complaint against me and I have never been late on rent. I don't know what it is that changed besides the people running this place, but it just isn't as great as it was a year ago. :( I'm moving as soon as my lease is up.

I also live at the Oaks....have for a year during which time the complex was sold and is now under new management, with most of the same staff in place.

Earlier this year, they did, in fact, hire an exterminator to eliminate the rodent problem, also in my building, but I believe this person and I may have lived in the same building. Never have I seen a rat anywhere around The Oaks...not at the garbage bins, nowhere. I believe field mice came in during a change in the weather.

The exterminator put out poison and the problem was eliminated. Maintainance also diligently plugged access to the building, sealing any small openings they encountered.

I find the staff friendly and helpful and have never had to wait for maintainance, even on the weekends. Those guys must be on call at all times because they show up just like that.

I'm sorry this person had a bad experience here; I have not and just wanted to give a different view. The quiet, the setting, the staff all make this a super place to come home to.

Field mice? I don't know what if anything you saw in your apartment, but I came face-to-face with a *rat* at 3 am. Not an experience I hope to repeat in this lifetime. I agree that the maintenance here is good, but that does not change being woken up by a rat in your apartment.
