It's good to know I'm not alone...

Apparently, like many others that lived in the complex, I find myself facing undue charges from the management. I previously lived this complex for 2 years. Upon moving out, I asked the manager to do a final walkthrough with me so that I could be sure that I didn't miss anything that I'd be responsible for. She refused, saying that they "do not do walkthroughs."
Later, after we moved, I received a bill for $428.00 for various items. Some of the items, such as a small hole in the garage wall, bent blinds, and some nail holes throughout the apartments, I do not contest. However, I was also charged for things that were no correct, such as cleaning the oven, which was spotless, dusting the washer and dryer, which were spotless, etc.
Additionally, I found that the pet deposit that I had paid on move-in was not applied to the charges.
Therefore, I sent a letter to the appartment manager, contesting some of the charges and the fact that the pet deposit was not applied. I asked that the bill be re-calculated and sent back. I have not heard back from her after 10 months.
However, recently I did hear from a collection agency, stating that I still owe the $428.00.
What's more, when searching on the Internet for the phone number of the complex, I found that I'm not alone. This seems to be a common complaint for this apartment complex. You may read these reviews yourself at apartmentratings.com.
I've lived in other properties and have always felt that they dealt fairly with me at move out. Sometimes there was damage, and I happily paid for the repairs. However, I have to contest charges when I'm not being treated in an honest manner.
