nice place, minimal but some faults

I was here for a year, and then moved permanently to our house in Europe. During my time here, I had a lovely downtown & uptown facing 2-bedroom unit, very spacious and probably the best rental complex in Houston. BUT, some of the management didn't meet my expectations for such a complex. I used to be abroad every other month, and once when I sent in my rent check via FedEx overnight, I had proof the concierge had signed for it and it was properly addressed to the relevant department, but about a week after it was received I was STILL getting very threatening late notice correspondence (phone messages and emails), using lines like "to avoid eviction..." even after I had repeatedly spoke to them and said you had my check in your office as you signed for it! I then had to pay late fees for 5 days, which was stupid, but I didn't want to argue it as I was out of the country. I had been sending in my checks like this for months prior, and never had this problem, but then AFTER this incident they told me I could just leave my future dated checks with them.... not exactly helpful when they knew I traveled abroad all the time, and I was one of the few who FedEx-ed checks to them... a little late! I eventually did get these late fees back after complaining to head office, and also they did carry out a trustworthy deposit return, as I moved out and left my deposit with them with new abroad address to have any remainder forwarded, and to my surprise, they actually did send the majority of it back.
The new concierge was not very helpful as they hired some new people, they used to have the most lovely lady working there, who was BEYOND helpful and SO friendly. Instead they got a stuck up young man, probably to match their manageress (whom as you'll read from other previous comments here, past residents also found her a bit "nose up.") But hey, no apartment complex has great management anyway.
I NEVER had any noise from neighbours, they were friendly, I liked the vallets, loved the community iteself (pool area, communal terraces, landscaping, lobby & hallway interiors, gym is 5-stars, area is 5-stars), and had a few handy features like a small meeting room which was convenient for me to handle business dealings in without even having to leave, also a nice party room and coffee bar. They held regular breakfast parties for the residents, it was nice, and very sociable. Maintenance staff are nice, too.
All in all, I will definitely be moving back here when I return to Houston next year.
