I moved here a couple years ago. I was never given a copy of my lease, and upon moving out I spoke with management and they said all that was required was one month's written notice which I gave them. 2 years later I was hit with a claim for $2,400 saying that I didn't give 2 MONTHS notice, that I did not give notice at ALL. To save the hassle of paying for a lawyer I simply paid the claim to clear my credit, but they NEVER took the claim off my credit! I've been calling for a year and have still not gotten a copy of the lease or this false claim removed from my credit. I was an excellent tenant, quiet, clean, always paid rent on time, and this is what happened to me.

9900 Memorial Apartments lease contract clearly states that residents must provide a 60-day written notice to vacate. This policy has been in place for many years. If you were turned over to collections it was for failure to complete the legal binding contract in which you signed. Your request for us to remove the account from collections is out of our hands once it has been turned over. If an account shows up on your collection report and has been paid in full then it will reflect "Paid in full". If you are having issues with the collection agency not showing that you paid then please call our office, provide proof of payment and we'll assist you in your attempt to get this taken care of.

If that is the truth then why don't you give the person a copy of their lease. I too had many problems with management. They told me stories from the beginning so I would rent from them. Unfortunatly I fell for it and regreted it ever since!! They also came after me saying I owed them this ungodly amount which to keep it off my credit report I just paid. I honestly think they are a bunch of thieves and will try anything to get an extra cent out of you. I have been thinking of filing a lawsuit against them - maybe a civil suit - I know many will jump on that!!!
