Just keeps getting worse...

I've been a resident at AMLI Towne Square for over 3 years and am looking forward to moving out of here. Recently this place has started going downhill. They used to have a pretty good leasing agent (Kalyn) who really made you feel like they cared about residents here, and a decent manager (I forget his name, but he apparently moved to corporate)... now most of the office staff are pretty much useless on a good day and borderline rude any other. Maintenance guys are nice, but the standards are dropping (after 3 calls about the same two problems I've just given up). Appliances are also kind of crappy - my washer's broken at least 5 times, and I've just resigned myself to having to put parts of it back together after every wash.
Break-ins and security keep getting worse, and management clearly doesn't care, only sending out a notice/disclaimer when required. There are more and more seedy looking people wandering the parking garage and hallways, and I worry for the ladies living here sometimes. My car's so full of dings from the parking garage that I've learned to just shrug it off and consider it my "apartment car" which will be replaced when I move. My other vehicle was broken into twice, and someone caved in the fender a few months ago while I was out of town.
Just today as I was checking my mail I was informed that we might not be receiving mail for a week or so because someone had been tampering with the mailboxes on property!
One other thing that's annoyed me recently is how they try to squeeze every last penny out of you when it's time to move out. They ask that you sign 4-pages worth of move out paperwork, some of which states that they will charge you up to $340 to clean your place unless you pay them a reduced cleaning fee in advance to save yourself the trouble of having to deal with "awkward" mops and brooms, etc. Seems like such a scam... I shouldn't be obligated to do anything other than provide notice as agreed under the lease.
Rents continue to increase for some reason even though vacancy is clearly on the rise judging by the growing number of perpetually empty apartments I can see from my balcony. They're surrounded by new construction so I don't know what they're thinking with these rising rates. Also, be prepared to pay more as an established resident with a good rental history than any other schmuck off the street. I remember when being a good tenant used to be rewarded. They also charge "pet rent" and have high pet deposits (at least half of which they'll keep). The flip side is that it's a pretty pet-friendly place (particularly if you like cats everywhere).
While the location is great for those working downtown, I think there are probably far better options in the area. Look elsewhere.

Everything anonymous said on 3/17 is accurate. They got me in at a cheap rate & then hiked it significantly when I went to renew. Though the maintenance guys are nice, every time they come in to fix something they destroy my property. For instance, they drilled on top of a bunch of my towels .. kindof peeved me since they had just been washed and neatly folded. Need I talk about the painting .. they had us remove everything from our balconies because they would be painting 2 months ago and the painters just showed up. Plenty more stories. Don't get me wrong .. some of the leasing staff are nice but as the previous anonymous said .. some are really rude and uncaring. The previous group was much nicer.

I am uncertain as to why you are unable to appreciate the improvements that are being made to the place we live. Do you really think that rents are not going to go up?? Was gas the same price you paid last month...seriously? Do you really think they can control the weather for the painters? I agree with the response from 5/3, you sound miserable! I have lived at Towne Square for 3 years and all of the office and maintenance employees are always helpful and will stay late if you need them for something. If I felt, the group that runs it did not care, I would move. I have loved living at AMLI and still do!

We have 4 days before we are to move in to this complex. At first glance, it looks nice and the staff is very nice and helpful until the time you sign the lease. After that they feel they've got you hooked and become rude, more uncompromising and unmoving than ever before. It began when Marissa proceeded to badmouth one of the other properties we told her we were considering. They had us sign a lease weeks ago, however just now (at the eleventh hour) were we notified that we had just been approved and needed an additional $500 deposit (which HAS GOT to be illegal in some fashion). When I asked the manager, Sonia, why they waited until the last minute to notify us of this, she immediately proceeded to turn it around on us and shift blame. They think way too highly of themselves, stating that they normally do not try to get someone approved after 48 hours of unsuccessful attempting. We were also required to provide a criminal background check when a red flag popped up on one of our names. The leasing agent, Ashley, told us that she knew from the physical description of the felon it clearly wasn't either of us (which apparently is against company policy). However, that was also turned around on us, as we were told that they had to make ABSOLUTELY sure. I would not recommend this complex to ANYONE, not even my worst enemies.
