Pretty nice place but be extra careful about security

I've lived here for almost 2 years now and am pretty pleased. Overall I would recommend but would offer some cautions for potential tenants.
I like the floor plan and the bedroom closets are HUGE -- I love this. Most apartments I've lived in have small crappy closets so I love having the big walk in closet.
Construction and quality is about average to above average. They have a few extra's like crown molding, ceiling fans, W/D hookups...but kitchen appliances, cupboards, bathroom fixtures are strictly no-frills and could use an update.
Management is competent and are generally helpful. The office staff is usually very friendly to me and seem genuine. Maintenance is also usually helpful but sometimes you have to chase them down to get work done if they're busy.
My complaints would be:
Parking sucks like a turbo charged Hoover. After 7pm, it's hit or miss, after about 10pm, no way in hell. I pay the $50 a month to rent a garage and it's totally worth it -- I would recommend doing this rather than drive yourself mad looking for parking every day.
Walls are paper thin and neighbors & kids are loud. It gets really old after a while and I wish the management would do something about it but so far not much.
Pricing is a little high in my opinion. But not a huge issue.
Security is questionable. The apartments are right on the border of kind of a bad neighborhood. There are burglaries every 1-2 months and once a robbery at gunpoint in the parking lot. They have security gates and security "officers" but neither does much to protect the residents. Cars tailgate in the gate and security staff are not very proactive.
In general this complex is a pretty nice place to rent, and based on my experience I would recommend it. Just be cautious and make sure you are willing to deal with the drawbacks before you sign a lease.
