Don't move here

We currently live in the 3-bd, 2-ba. apt (smaller unit). Our leasing agent (Andy) told us we could move in for the rest of Jan. 2008 and pay the pro-rated rate and then get Feb. free. We agreed but the manager told us that we could only get the remainder of Jan. free. The only way we would get a free month is if we moved in 1/29. We thought that it was better to get the whole month of Feb. free rather than half of Jan. Our apt. was ready for move in since our original move in date was Jan. 19 or so she said. On 1/29, we were told that our apt. was not ready until the next day. We were told it was ready two weeks ago so it was disappointing that we could not move in the day we were supposed to.
The day we moved in, the hallway bathroom door did not close because the lock didn't align with the bolt. We lost electricity in half the apt. because my son turned on his Xbox in his room, and the A/C didn't work because the thermostat was broken. The laundry door almost fell on my son when he opened it because the screw was loose on top. Although maintenance came out to fix it, these problems should've been taken care of before we moved in. Oh, and the electricity goes out whenever I blow dry my hair.
In March, we signed up for Comcast with the apt. complex for $35/month and they said that April would be free. On April 1st, our cable wasn't connected, so we called the office to complain. It wasn't until our third attempt when our cable was connected on April 8th. So much for a free month's worth of cable.
We started getting bills for $3/month because our rent was $749 and we have only been paying $746/month. They never gave us a copy of our lease agreement except when I asked for the first page to enroll my son in school. I never looked at it. Although it said $749, I had the electricity agreement signed by my aunt, husband, and myself along with the leasing agent, Andy, for the amount of $746/month. We had to sign this paper to get the electricity turned on before we could sign the lease. I showed this to Kimberley and the response she gave me was that she didn't know whose signature was signed under leasing rep. I told her "Andy" and she rolled her eyes. She told me that this agreement wasn't valid anymore because we signed the lease at $749 already. I was upset!!!
My son's room has always been stuffy and we didn't know why. His room is the one on the left down the hallway, but the other bedroom and the bathroom are extremely cool. I finally complained since it's been getting hotter. Maintenance came to fix it and said it was the filter. The next day, I still didn't see any changes so I came to complain again. Maintenance came and said something was blocking the vent or something. The next day, our entire apt. was almost 90 degrees inside. My husband told me he can hear water dripping from inside the A/C. When he opened the A/C door, the filter fell out. The slot where the filter was supposed to slide into froze over and started melting. The filter was also too big to fit in the slot. I have no idea why maintenance would so something like that. I guess they were too lazy to get the right filter so they just left the wrong one against the door.
If you want to move here, it's really your choice. Just keep in mind that Pizza Hut on Westheimer will not deliver there due to security issues. I fell in love with the models and now I am stuck until Feb. 2009. I really can't wait until our lease is up. And yes, the dumpster has been set on fire at least once during time I've been here so far and if you have to take out your trash, you have to drive all the way to the back of the complex. No convenient dumpster locations anywhere else. The staff is nice until you sign the lease. Then they treat you like dirt.

Contact HAA, they maybe able to help you out. I am sorry you are going through that but it has been like that for a long time. We lived there from August 2002 to May 2004 and they treated us the same way.

I'm so sorry to hear everything that you've gone through. I'm thankful that I only have until the end of september to MOVE OUT!!, Hang in there, things will be better once you look for a nice and better place. I also live in a 3/2 with my kids and I've also had A/C problems. Have you used the pools lately, well not really used, If you haven't DON'T EVEN TRY TO GO IN. WATER IT'S GREEN (THAT'S HOW DIRTY THE WATER IS). take care and hang in there.

Has anyone had issues with mold since then? I know they're continuing the renovations, am wondering how safe the exterior is now and if they have fixed the health issues inside the apartments. Please, any resident, respond, thanks!

It seems like you are have the very same problem with you apt. that we are having with our place. Our master bedroom is always hot, and maintenance tells us that same excuse, it's the filter. Our air conditioning has broken down 11 times and still doesn't work properly. We hear that same running water all the time. Once, they cut a hole in our wall to apparently fix the A/C. They left the hole there, we had to call them to come back and repair the wall. It took two weeks for them to come back.
