I moved here when the complex was first built. It seemed like a great idea...brand new complex, close to work, the galleria, and my gym. The basketball court seemed like an excellent idea, and the weight room/gym was top notch. ...However, right away apartment doors were kicked in and nobody was informed of all the crimes. I was friends with one of the apartment managers, and believe me, the stories weren't pretty.
It gets worse. I could hear my neighbors turn on their A/C, use the restroom, take a shower, talk on their phone, watch t.v.... their phone would ring and I would catch myself reaching for mine.
The gates are constantly broken. At first they had a bar that would raise up and down to allow one car at a time. After numerous replacements they gave up on the idea and kept it down permanently. Sometimes you can't even get into the complex even if you have a remote or a number you enter to call your phone. I had to turn in my remote and requested a new one. It's been over four months, and they're still "out". I actually have to follow people in or wait for someone to leave in order to get in now. Well, that is if the gates not broken (for my sake it's broken 70% of the time...). When it's broken you can just drive right in...okay, except for one night when nobody was able to get in because it wouldn't open and management wouldn't do anything to fix it until the next day.
Cars are constantly being broken into, and even stolen. I came outside of my apartment one night and two men were attempting to take the tires off of my friends car. About a week later, around 6 A.M., a woman was standing outside and her car had been stolen the night before.
I'm not done...
I can hear my neighbors beating each other. The woman above me screams bloody murder, the smoke marijuana, and this is all around their children... I can't even begin to count how many times I have woke to the sounds of my neighbors having sex. Every morning I can hear their "morning pee" and the following flush.
My friend, who lives across from me, has approximately 10-12 Nigerians living above her. They're up at all hours of the night, smoking marijuana, dancing, yelling, loud music.... Management hasn't done anything about it, even with her numerous complaints.
Something horrible happened recently. A young girl was kidnapped in broad daylight by two men w/ a knife. She was then forced into her car and had to drive around to local ATM's to try and get out as much money as possible. She tried to fight them and her arms were sliced up and down. She was then thrown out of the car onto the ground, where her head was bashed against the sidewalk so hard it cracked her skull. She was raped and beaten. They then raped her with a baseball bat, which tore her and put her in the hospital w/ stitches. Afterwards, they dropped her off in the middle of nowhere. Ya know what the worst part about it is... management sent out a letter stating only "a crime occurred".
A few days ago a huge fight broke out in the basketball court. A few guys that lived here had all of their gang oriented friends come and play basketball. A knife was pulled, then guns were brought out... The police came and everything...however, no notice has been given regarding that situation.
The apartment complex is also right next door to Hurricane Katrina Relief Apartments.. They pay 375 (or something close to that number)month, all bills paid. You can only imagine the quality of people living there... nothing against helping out, but when they're here causing havoc and the crime rate has increased at insane rates, I have the right to be judgmental...
Alta Brook continues to drop their rent, because everybody is moving out and advising others to go elsewhere. As a result, low class people are moving in. I'm not saying there's anything wrong w/ being broke (heck, i'm there from time to time), but when it's bringing in criminals it's a whole different story.
They recently hired a security guard to walk or ride around the apartments. He does his job to the best of his abilities, but it hasn't stopped any of the crime.
Another thing. They put the kids playground right beside the constantly overfilled dumpster, and also right next to the gate (where people are driving in and out at all hours).
Please please please do not move here!!! It's not safe!!!...and not worth any amount of money you may save w/ the prorated deals.... your life, your home, and your vehicle are all in jeopardy if you do... ...not to mention your overall sense of security and happiness in your own home... vWhRVi5nYYIuEh4W7K3l

You are right on the money!! I can hear EVERYTHING in every apartment around me. Especially their restroom, stereo, TV, fighting, sex, etc. Management needs to get a clue and start caring about people's real-world concerns.
