Maybe things have changed since I lived there in 1997-1998, but I was not overly impressed.

Pros: great location, apartments are a good size compared to many of the newer complexes that have gone up nearby.

The top floor had problems - the flat roof caused water to collect above my apartment. What goes up must come down - into my living room. A very large portion of the ceiling came down, many of my belongings were damaged, and the carpet was ruined. I will say they acted quickly and temporarily put me up in one of their furnished units - but the work that was done was horrible. The workers shoved all the still wet insulation back into the ceiling before patching it. The mold smell persisted the remainder of the time I lived there. Also, they did replace the carpet, but the installation job was bad and the carpet had huge rolls across the middle of the room. It was like a small mountain range. Repeated calls to have it stretched out went ignored.

The top floor also had another issue - people below me. The morning after I moved in, a nasty neighbor who apparently did not like that someone had moved in above them complained to management that I was blasting a stereo all night. I got a rude message from the front office the next morning telling me my "lifestyle" was not appropriate for apartment living. They never spoke to me or investigated, just left the nasty note taped to my door. Truth is, I spent that first night sleeping on the floor with nothing but one suitcase because my belongings had not arrived. I didn't have a stereo. Was not a very good welcome.

I hope for the sake of the current residents some things might have improved. One would think the owners/management would want to spend a little time and money making these apartments more up to date - considering the location and the professional renters who tend to choose this area for its convenience.

I have been working with the manager on a "neighbor problem" and she has been very professional. However, this same particular neighbor was like yours (!) as I got a call (before the current problem) from the office (a new employee) saying that I was being very noisy walking around. Well, this neighbor is on the 2nd floor and I am on the first floor!!! Apparently, the neighbor on the 3rd floor came in late one night while the neighbor was studying. Be that as it may, sometimes you get a neighbor who is sensitive to everything others do, BUT has behavior that is even more obnoxious. All in all, Allen House is a very nice place to live, I would recommend it.
