Allen House was recommended to me by an Agent who was an apartment finder. I rented a 3rd floor apartment sight unseen for my first year of college at just over $600.00 per month (2004-05) My agent said that while she could not by law tell me if this was a "safe" area, I should check police records available on-line. Many other apartments I had considered in other close in area were rampant with car thefts, personal property loss, ect...This area where Allen House is located was one of the best close in sections for crime. While my agent could not say it out loud, I took her hint and found out for myself that for the price I was in a favorable section of town for safety.
My apartment was very nice, no leaks, new carpet, new appliances, nice view of the trees. When my neighbor complained about my steroe noise, I became a more thoughtful neighbor having never lived with professionals (just college students) I learned to have more respect.
I did have a few ants that invaded once after I'd left for the weekend, but a specialist was brought in and I even paid a little extra on my own for a more complete extermination and they never revisited.
The staff here is excellent. The maintenance expert in my area was Francisco, what a gem of a person. You feel like he is a personal friend. The office staff are great and are professional. I have never left the office without feeling satisfied that they try to assist me with whatever I came in to do.
Sure, the place is older and the laundry rooms are not as convenient as if there were units in each apartment, but this is why Allen House is affordable.
I loved living in the River Oaks area with all the "rich" people. Blocks away I could not fathom the lushness of this grand old area and I was in it too. Great location, great price, great people.
