I've lived in the Allen House for 10 years; there are 4 things that really bother me about living here: 1) My car has been broken into 4 times, twice behind gates, twice in the open parking lot, 2)the hot water comes out brown/red 3) we pay high water bills and management isn't monitoring them so they're getting away with it, and 4), management has raised my rent EVERY year I've lived here.
I believe that being a long-term tenant should grant one some favoritism over the new tenants coming in at "under market" rent. Watching them raise my rent while allowing tenants to come in at under $600/mo doesn't sit well with me.
So, my advice is this. If you are looking for a place to park yourself a year or two, then I highly recommend this place; you can't beat it for the money. If you are looking for something longterm, don't allow yourself to get hooked. You're not treated like a valued tenant.

5 years ago when I first started paying water at AH, it was only $12/mo. Now it's $20/mo and nothing has changed in my household, as a matter of fact, I order bottled water.

I AM SOO GLAD YOU WROTE THIS REVIEW!!!! I REALLY REALLY WANT TO STRESS TO PEOPLE THAT WATER HERE IS BROWN!!!!!! ANY TIME OF DAY OR NIGHT...THE WATER WILL JUST START COMING OUT BROWN....SO WHEN YOU WASH YOUR DISHES...THEY CAN BE GETTING WASHED IN FILTHY WATER....OH AND SOMETIMES THE WATER MIGHT LOOK CLEAN ON FIRST SIGHT...JUST LET IT RUN AND FILL UP YOUR SINK OR BATHTUB...YOU WILL SEE HOW DISGUSTING IT IS!!!!! AND THE WATER BILL...YEA NO ----! I PAY $40/MONTH FOR BROWN WATER...I AM ABOUT TO MOVE OUT AND THEY SAID THAT MY DEPOSIT WILL HAVE TO COVER MY WATER BILL....YEA WE ARE GOING TO SEE ABOUT THAT...WE WILL SEE WHAT THE HOUSTON APARTMENT ASSOCIATION HAS TO SAY ABOUT THAT....THE ALLEN HOUSE MNGMT IS ABOUT TO GET A VERY VERY RUDE AWAKENING....
