Archstone: The Epitome of Poor Property Management

These people could've had 2 more years of "easy, ALWAYS on-time, hassle-free" rent money from us if they hadn't attempted to jack up our rent by $270 to bring us "up to market." Archstone can charge all the new people coming in that new rental rate! It was nauseating to have to sit through the process of discussing renewing our rent, and then just have it magically be a $100 increase. It was smarmy and very rehearsed. We decided to move anyway, even though Archstone was giving us such a "good deal."
Living here was a pain in the ass from the beginning. I should've known that these people were shady when they refused to give my friend, who lived here and referred us here, a promised monetary referral bonus. When we inquired about it, they refused to give us a reason.
Having just one trash compactor for the 678 units on site is absolutely unsanitary. Boxes and trash pile up constantly and it stinks. Literally!
The "security gates" are always broken; for at least 1 week out of every month.
The leasing staff show extreme signs of stress on the weekends when they are “understaffed.” They complain about being understaffed and are rude in general. You have to constantly remind them of what you need to get it done. They don’t acknowledge you when you are waiting 20 minutes to pick up a package, and when you bring the matter to their attention, they snap at you. I, at the time, was not requesting for them to “do it now,” I just wanted to know that they hadn’t forgotten about me. They snapped in front of a prospective renter and he didn’t think that was cool, by the look in his face.
Taking away weekend shuttle service, and purchasing night and/or weekend security guard services was a pointless exercise. The guard isn't always there as scheduled, and when they are, all they do is sit in the guard booth and do nothing at the gate. They let anybody through! These security people are useless for noise disturbance/other issues on property, because by the leasing staff's admission, the answering service doesn’t have their pager numbers or any way to contact them.
The Med Center/Astrodome area is unsafe in general and nowhere in the lease does it state that Archstone has to provide any "security." However, this property is prone to a lot of auto break-ins and vandalism, and burglary. There is minimal communication from management when events like these occur. The last burglary at this complex occurred Tuesday, 01/31/06 to one of the young cancer patients who is temporarily living here. odusyNYCcZ7yL3Bj5JtG
