I lived here for 5 years with my wife. I honestly don't know why so many complained about the place.

There was an occasional break in, but given the area (6 out of 100 according to NeighborhoodScout), it was rather safe. We never saw broken glass from a car broken into. Every time there was a break in, we got a notice to keep our eyes open. In the five years we were there, we were never broken into (third floor, not facing parking lot). I heard of many more issues at some of the neighboring complexes (ie. holly hall). There were new guards on a frequent basis, so it is difficult to say anything about any individual, but at least they patrolled regularly.

Our rent moved up over the five years we were there, but at a rate that averaged about 3% per year, which I thought was reasonable (roughly the rate of inflation).

The maintenance people were outstanding (probably the best aspect of the place). Even minor things were fixed within 24 hours, I was amazed. We even got them to unclog our drains regularly (hair, etc.). They were always quite willing.

The place was super convenient for my wife (worked in the medical center), and I worked to the SW, so I was going against traffic.

One issue that we did have was that one year (out of the five), we had some neighbors that enjoyed a rather smelly illicit substance. It turned out that our A/C system somehow pulled air from their system, and it smelled strongly in our apartment of that substance. Maintenance attempted to fix the issue, but ultimately we had to tell our neighbors to cut back. They moved away shortly thereafter.

We had overall good experiences with the management, but it was probably better when Patricia Torres was the manager. For example, after she left, things got a little impersonal and more annoying (we got a notice to take off small stickers off a window that had been there for 3 years). Only one individual in the office was the same after five years, but I don't think that is unusual in that business.

Anyways, we just moved away from Houston entirely, and obviously don't live there anymore, but I would say its a good place for a young couple if one of them works in the med center.

My neighbors smoked and it came into my bedroom so heavily my clothes smelled like smoke. Then upon moveout, they tried to charge ME for the smell.
