I Happen to Like the Place

I have been living at the complex for about 6 months.

At the time of move-in we were given a look around the place, toured the apartments, etc. I was moving in with my sister who was getting married, so I knew that I needed to move, in the middle of my lease. I inquired about having to move, would we have to sign a shorter lease, and then transfer to another apartment.

The management explained the process of relocating at any time during my lease. I would fill out a relocation form and transfer to a one bedroom inside the complex. I would have to start a new lease but it would just void my current lease. I asked if there was a fee attached to the fact that I was transferring before the end of my first least and she assured me that was not the case. (I will be transferring soon so I will write again after I complete this move.)

Maintenance requests were promptly answered. I have only had 2 in the 6 months I have lived there. The first one was when the kitchen sink was backing up in my apartment when my neighbors would run their water or garbage disposal. I have a maintenance guy at my apartment within 5 minutes of my call. This was also at 8 pm at night after the office was closed. The maintenance was not able to solve the problem so they called the plumbing company and waited with me until they arrived. They had to take a section of the wall out to get to the problem. Then next morning, right when the office opened, a maintenance person came to my apartment replaced the drywall and cleaned up the mess from the night before.

The only other problem that I have encountered was when I was testing my heater before the first cold snap. When I first turned on the heater it started to set off the smoke alarms. I turned it off and the next day at work I filled out a service request on-line for someone to come and check to see that my heater is clean and working properly. Before I got home that evening the situation was taken care of and there was a service note on the counter saying that the heater had been cleaned and was working. There was evidence that someone had cleaned the heater but all evidence was swept and disposed of in the trash. I was very impressed.

Noise levels are relatively low from my perspective. I do not however, live by the pool so I don t hear all the WILD PARTIES that are happening. The only noise that has annoyed me on occasion would be the fact that I can hear the water used by my upstairs neighbors since the pipes are running down the side of my bedroom wall. And occasionally I can hear something fall or someone walking above me.
I would like to clarify by saying that this is because I chose to live on the first floor. If noise is an issue for you then I would tell you to pick a third floor apartment where there would be no one living above you.

Security, I have only received 3 notices of a security nature since I have moved in. One was a lady who was mugged in the parking lot, a car break-in, and something was stolen out of the business center, like a memory stick or something.
My advice is simply this. Use common sense. Don t leave CDs, cellular phones, purses, wallets, anything of value out in plain view in your car. This will minimize, but in no way eliminate the risk of your car being broken into. Also, be aware of what is happening around you. Be aware of the people around you and be on guard if you are walking around late at night within the apartment complex.
I would also like to say that I also received a notice, shortly after the mugging that there were going to be a few people on patrol around the complex from a security company. The next week, I was coming home from a friend s apartment at 10:30p and I observed one of the gentlemen on patrol who proceeded to make sure that I got to my apartment safely.

I have also posted responses to many of the complaints.

Just like anything, you need to be wise at looking for an apartment, know the terms of your lease, know the dates your lease is up, etc. Common sense for anyone who has rented before.
