Yo!

Braeswood is a blemish on Archstone's name

I was very disappointed with management when my husband and I needed to break our contract and move since we both graduated early and had jobs awaiting us in another city. The management at the time we needed to break our contract had just shifted hands (the old manager was very professional and good) and all hell broke loose. The new manager was very rude to us when we approached him to break our lease. We were told that we owed the rest of our rent for the remainder of the contract reletter's fee (aggregate $5000). We had a previous agreement with the previous manager that we would not have to pay these fees, unfortunately we didn't have it put in writing. At the time I was unaware that you could transfer to another Archstone complex in a different city and not have to pay to break your contract. The new manager insisted that we had to pay this and this was our only option. Luckily my relocation agent knew about the alternative and I was able to convince (yes, convince) the manager that I could do this.

All in all, I respect Archstone. The Archstone complex I moved to was awesome compared to this dump. I can recall nights during a heavy rain storm when the rain water would come gushing in my bedroom window (due to the poor foundation problems the window had separated from the wall) and my husband and I would have to hold up towels to the window. I called for repairs and this problem was not fixed. It's really hard to fix this esp in Houston, which has foundation problems in general (Rice is continually sinking into the ground and they have to jack up portions of it every few yrs).

Also, this apartment complex had problems with vagrants and break-ins. Both of my upstairs neighbors had their cars broken into during the 4 months that I lived there. The Astrodome area isn't the safest area, so to me this location isn't the best, but when you're a student you can't find cheap housing in the Med Ctr/Rice area and you have to compromise (unfortunately).
