Dangerous Parking Lot

First of all, this is an awsome website. Where else in the world can renters get HONEST information about an apartment before they sign a lease. I'm not going to move anywhere again until I check this site first.

Now lets talk business. I have lived at The Cove for almost two years now and during that time the apartment complext has had 3 management companies. The initial managment group (in my opinion) were the only people who really performed the way a management team in supposed to perform. That company was called Alliance Residential. Yes, they were very strict about the rent being on time, but at least they made sure that eveything on the property was operational and worked properly. They left in November of 2004 and it's been down hill every since. The management companies that came in after them were RMT and now Berkshire...neither of which made any real initiative to make any improvements on the property.

My biggest complaint.... Very, very poor lighting in the parking lot. In my area of the complex all but two of the spot lights in the parking lot have been blown out for over 6 months. The remaining two are "shorting out" and come on and off intermittedly. This creats very dangerous conditons especially for women that leave and arrive home from work when it's still dark outside. I leave my apartment at 5:15 in the morning and I can barely see my hand in front of my face once I get out into the parking lot. I notified management in person, by phone AND by certified letter about the problem. I even contacted their President and CEO. I got a letter in the mail stating that they were going to replace the lights but that was months ago.

There are areas on the property where the parking lot lights are still burning, but they will burn out sooner or later and then I doubt those will get replaced either.

Several months ago someone was able to set my neighbor's car on fire at night. That person was able to go COMPLETELY unnoticed because of how dark it is in that parking lot. If the parking lot was adaquately lighted it would have been a lot harder for that person to commit that felony. This was no small fire. I looked out my window and saw flames shooting over 20 feet in the air.

Even still, the managment still has not made the lighting issue a priorty. I guess it's going to have to take somebody getting raped before they do something. I just hope I can get out before that happens.
