I've got a good feel for Gables Augusta after six months' renting there. So here goes:
FOR - Complex is very well presented - great grounds, pool and fitness room. - Apartments are well designed, built and appointed. Generally quiet - there seems to be some degree of sound insulation. - Resident events (breakfasts, cookery classes, etc.) are a great way to meet your neighbors. - Office staff DO take awhile to respond to voicemails but if you go in person, they're always helpful and pleasant. I'm surprised other reviewers had negative experiences. - Handy for Galleria but outside the loop, reasonable access to Beltway. There's a gas station, supermarket, several restaurants and a news store all within walking distance (though walking across Westheimer isn't for the faint-hearted...) - Assigned parking spaces are good, visitor parking on top level. Yes, people drive too fast through the garage... welcome to Houston. - Maintenance are mostly quick to respond, always friendly and do a very good job.
AGAINST - Burglaries and vehicle crime. It can happen anywhere but seems to be a problem at GA right now. Management brought in 24/7 security over the holidays but since scaled it back. Ask the agent about this if you view an apartment.
That's really the only negative, and it's a real shame because it's otherwise a great place to live. If they'd have a guard on duty 24/7 and install some cameras, it'd be close to an ideal apartment. Here's hoping.

My wife and I visited the complex and absolutely fell in love with the two bedroom that we toured. It's a shame that there are such mixed reviews about this place. We can only hope that people are honest in their reviews as we made our decision based on the opinions on this site. The complex seems to be crime prone. Is that really a fact? Can anyone respond to this honestly?? We may still have some time before we decide to go to another property. We would really appreciate some responses from current residents.

Call any of the at-large city council members and ask them who to call at the police department to verify the crime reports at this address. They will be happy to help you.

We agree that everyone should check OFFICIAL statistics with local law enforcement. On a further note...
