It's do-able

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I've lived here for almost a year now and it's not perfect, but it's not horrible either. My apartment is located in the front courtyard with the pool and main entrance. The view is awesome, very tropical, however living in this area has some downfalls. Unfortunately, my bedroom window is facing the pool and walkway. People come and go all night long, and I can hear the mag lock snap into place when the gate is opened. It's enough to wake you from sleep. These late night tenants are also oblivious (or don't care) about the fact that the other residents can hear them (word for word) when they stumble in drunk at 4am. Personally, I don't care what that guy at the bar thought of you, and it's surely not worth waking me up over. Last summer there were also serious problems with residents going for a midnight swim (sometimes naked and engaging in sexual acts). It probably wouldn't have been a problem however, they made no efforts to be quiet, so you could easily here all the shrieking and splashing. Management did go out of their way however to deal with the pool problem although it continued none the less. Since then however, a lot of new lighting has been added so hopefully it will discourage the nighttime behavior this summer. It definitely makes you feel safer. I've read reports of a bug problem here, however, I've not personally had this problem, and I have cats with a litter box and cat food down 24-7. I have seen roaches crawling outside, but they're usually near trash that's been left out on a doorstep, which is by the way, against policy. For $10 a month you can put trash outside in the morning on Tue/Thurs and save yourself a walk to the dumpster. The quality of the apt is nice...I have crown molding and new carpet. The appliances are a little old but they work. Maintenance is usually pretty quick to respond, but once I was left without a shower for 4 days because of a piping problem since it happened during a holiday. The parking garage is a little on the creepy side (think one of the hatches on LOST) and when it rains it always floods. Depending on where you are assigned the water could be more than ankle deep. If you have more than one car, you're screwed, as parking on the street is terrible. Over Thanksgiving, my Moms car was broken into and the radio stolen...I hear I'm not the only one this happened to. Overall however, it isn't bad. Be respectful to management and neighbors and they'll return the favor. If I could get another parking space for my boyfriend, I'd consider resigning my lease.
