Yo!

Don't Move Here

Years at this apartment: 1996 - 2003

I lived in these apartments for several years and couldn't even list all the crazy things that happened at these apartments during that time. The only reason my husband and I stayed is because the rent was so cheap and we were rarely home.

Some of the highlights:
Someone broke into my car (several items stolen).
Management changed every 2-3 months.
My newspaper was stolen every morning after a major sporting event (I finally got a clue and cancelled my subscription).
After taking out the trash one night a car pulled up next to me with a group of men inside; one started chasing me. Fortunately I made it to safety.
The next door neighbor blatently sat in a chair in front of his apartment and smoked pot (daily) while singing rap songs; management thought it was funny.
Early in our stay there we had a stripper who lived across from us. Her boyfriend would come home so drunk every night that he'd try to get in to our apartment.
Frequent gun shots in the middle of the night
Very noisy, with rap music and bass blaring from car windows. It was always so loud that it would shake our third floor apartment.
There were two brothers who lived at the apartments who were major dumpster divers. Seriously, they were always in the dumpsters looking for stuff. We (along with several other residents) complained to management but nothing was done. They said the brothers were harmless and were just looking for bread, cigarette butts, etc. They were disgusting people, but mysteriously drove better cars than most people at the complex.
The water was always off for "maintenance." I saw a television news report about a year ago from the complex that said the management owed thousands of dollars for the water bill. Water at the complex had been turned off and management had moved out of the office in the middle of the night. I never saw a follow up report to see what happened.
Some punk kid rode up on a bike when I was getting out of my car one night and attempted to rob me. Fortunately I was in my martial arts uniform and planned to attack. He thought better of his idea and rode off.
The people who lived under us (on the second floor) would play their music and television so loud that it would shake our apartment. If you knocked on their door to tell them to turn it down they would either pretend they couldn't hear you or scream obsenities at you.

I'm still pissed at my husband for refusing to move from the apartments all those years. I was so embarrassed about the complex that I'd never invite anyone over. My friends and family constantly urged me to move (though they did enjoy my crazy Hartford Park stories). Getting out of there was the best thing that ever happened.
