Maybe the Best Option Downtown!

I've been at HH since Nov '04 as well. The staff (and the deli owners downstairs) all remember your name and ask how you and your family are, the maintenance guys are fast to respond and are courteous, and even the mail lady (Joyce) is extremely pleasant! The elevators are reliable (there was a couple week stretch where they were out of synch but it seems to be fixed), the pool is rarely ever problematic, the 2-floor weight room, indoor basketball court, and rec room are definitely good for the money (if you want to bodybuild you're never going to find the gym in an apartment complex, so look elsewhere), and the views from the apartments are great, no matter what direction you face. I drink the tap water and feel fine, they hardly ever shut it off except when most people are at work and when it needs repair or upgrading, and the parking isn't as bad as some make it seem on here. The only noise you hear really is traffic noise outside, but that's anywhere really, especially in a city--it's not a problem anyway--and the walls are thick, so neighbors and noises rarely penetrate. The lobby area is pretty nice too--guests seem impressed by it--and never does it seem unsafe in the building. Comparing it to other apartments downtown and in Midtown, this is definitely a great value, even without the electricity being included! I walk to work, I can walk to stores, the METRO rail is 1-2 blocks away, bus stops are across the street and on or within the block, and being in a highrise offers additional security, both crime- and weather-wise!

I wrote this review a while ago and thought I'd update it. My lease ended and I only had a choice of 6 month or month-by-month leases. The 6 month increased my monthly rent by $30 and now that it's up at the end of May again the 6 month will add $50 and the month-by-month will add $100. Yikes! Now I gotta check out apartments up north (recommendations welcomed!) where work is also moving at the end of the year...and I gotta do it by the end of May. I can't keep paying more and more and, since I plan on moving by year's end anyway, I figured I'm due. The water isn't always bad but it's nothing I drink. I have a filter on the kitchen faucet for cooking and drinking and the bathroom water is only for rinsing after brushing...and sometimes even that tastes bad. Not all things are bad but it's possible the management is pushing tenants out in favor of owners (in lieu of renters) with these rate increases...but who knows. I'll still miss the views and location when I go though.
