If I could live anywhere in the city, I would move back to Houston House. My apartment was clean (no roaches like another reviewer stated...you might be nasty). My rent was reasonable. I had a great parking spot. I loved the people at the front desk and in the leasing office. I even loved Wanda (the manager). I always found her extremely easy to work with. If I needed a repair done, which was not often, it was done is a timely and professional manner. The maintenance staff was nice and made sure I was satisfied with the job.

The convenience is a whole nother issue. I LOVED the location. Being able to walk to the grocery store, or just take the elevator down to the Express deli on the first floor was wonderful. Macy's, CVS, and the dollar store were all a short walk or Metro Rail ride away. Toyota Center was an even shorter walk in the other direction....Man I miss that place!!

Don't let me start on the view....I had a baby and my mom (who is afraid of heights and claustrophobic wasn't coming all the way to the 28th floor in an elevator) insisted I move to the ground level. Otherwise, I would still be a happy Houston Houser!

I disagree with you on a couple of things: I lived there from 2001 to 2005 and Wanda was the manager then... she's not new, and she's great! I wish the rest of the staff was like her. Express Deli is expensive but not 3x to 4x as much. I think you mean 130% to 140% more. Plus they make excellent sandwiches there. Currently I live at the Post Rice Lofts and still consider the Houston House a decent apartment. PS. I never saw any cockroaches there ever. NO COCKROACHES.

The only position that Wanda has held at the Houston House until about July of 2008 was the Bookkeeper. Julie Vo and Suzanne Jones have managed this property for the past 7 years. Prior to that it was managed by Brenda Boyd.

This review sounded like it was written by a member of the staff. I agree that things are not as despert as many reviewers noted, but there are many issues that need to be addressed, management is one of them.
