towing nightmare

We have lived here for about a month and a half. After being a homeowner for 30 years, it has been a bit of a shock. Last night my husband's truck was towed. The apartments do not have adequate parking and they have allowed the towing company to rove the parking lot fabricating violators. My husband parked at the end of the pavement where others had parked before. There were no sign and no warnings. $191.00 and half a day of work missed later. WE are plenty hot.The office was no help and give standard brush off answers. It is unconscionable that the complex would allow an opportunistic towing company to prey on tenants. My neighbor got towed for having an expired registration sticker while being parked in her paid spot!!! Unbelievable!
We are taking this to court, and we are contacting AIMCO. This has to stop.
We love the location, we like our neighbors, but this is ridiculous.

Sorry to hear that you're living in an apartment after 30 years home ownership. The reality regarding the Lakeside Place management's disrespectful attitude and contempt toward it's residents is a harsh one. Once you figure it out you need to cope with it until your lease is up, because you will not change those freaks. They LOVE the lease technicalities, but only when it benefits them (e.g., towing if tags are expired). Examine your lease and you will find the legal requirement of habitability that they must provide, but rarely do residents think ahead and document their encounters with management. You need to write down EVERYTHING--every leasing agent you talked to (names, times, dates), or handed your written request to, everything that was promised (all of the excuses given), etc.. Do not trust anyone in the leasing office to remember you if they "accidentally lose" your maintenance request--you must always protect yourself with follow-up and document, follow-up and document, etc., etc.. Unfortunately, without this legal leverage against them they will continue to jerk you all around.
At least you are going to court on this unfair towing incident. Did you read the reviews before you moved in?

The parking is outrageous, there have been several days and night I have watched the wrecker looking for victims, this is a management issue, they have a signed contract allowing them to take our cars, I do not have a problem with cars that are illegally parked, however if there is not adequate parking provided why is the management allowing this? All the covered parking and garaged parking was provided at the time this property was built to provide enought parking to all residents here, then came a creative manager that suggested charging for parking as if we're parking at the airport and here were are, insufficient parking, furthermore your not advised of this before move-in. I am a prisoner to the parking, we have to plan stratgically for guest to arrive and park. I suggest we all contact the Houston Apartment Association about this issue. As far as maintenance issue's rats, bats, & roach's call 311 they will respond and your problems will be IMMEDIATELY taken care of.

and keep in mind that every court hearing practically wipes out any monies they made on towing you - they either forfeit it by no show or have to pay the the lawyer. after few of these the parking becomes liability rather than extra income opportunity

There are signs on every carport row!!! Don't be blind!!!
Don't park in a carport that you aren't paying for. Don't park where there is red paint (thats a fire zone). Don't park in handicap if you aren't legally eligible. Then, there will be no problems. Guaranteed.
You won't have roaches if you dont put food on the floor and keep your place clean! The extermination is free every Monday.
