Eh - Not horrible, but not great

I lived at The Lanesborough for a year. While the reviews here are probably slanted more towards the negative than is reality, there is a lot of merit to the complaints. The fact of the matter is that Richdale/Lanesborough don't have to be too responsive to these complaints because the location alone sells this place. It's very convenient to the Texas Medical Center and it seems like most who live here either work or are students in the med center. Each year there's a large pool of incoming students who can fill the spots of people like me who are ready to move on. I know that my rent would've increased had I remained and I was not satisfied with what I perceived to be a poor value.
NEGATIVES:
-The management is pretty awful. While many of them do seem sincere and trying to do their best, they simply aren't empowered to solve many issues. Their shoddy office in a portable building a considerable distance from the apartments doesn't help to provide an available and friendly image. It probably doesn't help their spirits, either.
-The fitness center is showing its age. The equipment is outdated.
-I could hear my neighbor above whenever he/she walked around.
-The pedestrian gate on my side of the complex was broke for over a month. It wouldn't shut or lock and therefore anybody could get in. I had to chuckle when posted by the mailboxes was a notice of a reported break-in. Well, duh, don't leave the gate wide open for over a month and you might help stem the crime. The car gates also frequently stopped working and were left open. One day I noticed a wheeless-SUV on jacks in the gated parking lot that the day before had expensive-looking rims.
-There's nothing of interest in the vicinity. You're more or less on an apartment island surrounded by fields, parking lots, and a construction site.
POSITIVES
-Maintenance is relatively quick and I rarely needed to have them fix anything.
-Close to the rail
-Covered parking

Although this complex offers a tremendous advantage at being close to the train rail, it is not worth the price! The office staff is very stand-offish and do not have a strong sense of customer service. This complex offers a decent work-out facility but no club house. You end up paying more in rent than if you just drive into the medical center. There are a few more apartments in the area that provide a location at a moderate walking distance from other light rail stops.
