I lived in Lantern Village from 2005-2008. The area I lived in (5850 Gulfton) was very quiet and well maintained. The apartments had a consistent and visible security presence. Always had good responses from maintenance. I saw a spider once; but never a roach. Overall seems to a great value.

To balance, I could offer a negative side: security is so tight it can be a hassle, e.g., you need an ID card to go check your mail. Some might appreciate that. Gulfton is a busy street... lots of pedestrian traffic, motor vehicle traffic, and lots of U turns. Sometimes it is so quiet in the complex it seems like a ghost town, but apparently the place is well occupied.

As someone else reviewed, the place seems best for quiet adults. I would not want my daughter to stay in this neighborhood, though I knew one young girl that lived there for years. As with anyplace I imagine, the lease cost will increase with each signing.

I met the manager once; she seemed nice. She mistakenly tried to enter my apt, as she confused it up with the same numbered empty unit in another building. She did not enter (key did not fit) but lingered to apologize and let me know of the mix-up. Otherwise, I never saw her in my 2 1/2 year stay.

Yep, a high occupancy rate made up of mostly well mannered tenants. The ill-mannered, and inconsiderate need not apply - they will be soon evicted for violation of efficiently enforced apartment complex rules.

The rest of us like the quiet, quality and reasonable rates enough for many to stay for many years. I have several near neighbors who have been here around ten years, which is almost unheard of in huge complexes in a very mobile part of the city (right between Galleria and Bellaire). I just signed my eighth one year lease, and it is the third time I have lived in this complex since 1975. I have owned homes, and rented elsewhere. This complex has been the best situation for me.

The stuff is not friendly at all. They came into my apt 4 times last month without my permission. I will never recommend any friends to move in Lantern.
