My husband and I originally moved into a 2 bedroom townhouse with a roommate when we first moved in. At right around 1200 square feet, and our rent being under 900 a month, we were thrilled. The floor plan of that town house wasn't great, but it was a STEAL, and it served us well. While there, our AC would go out once every 6 weeks or so, but a phonecall in the middle of the night (which, thankfully, was when it would happen), would have someone out around 7 or 8 the next morning. The maintenance men have all ben pretty nice, too. Recently, my husband and I have moved into a 1 bedroom with a study, and we really love it. The neighbourhood's not great, but the security is. The make walk arounds frequently, and an ID for non-residents is required. They also take down the tag numbers, so I always feel safe when I'm parking at night. By far, the biggest draw back of this place is the poorly planned parking. What I wouldn't give for at least ONE assigned parking spot. If you come or go mid-day, getting a spot close to your house is no trouble, but heaven forbid you're late or early (for all those that work night shift), you'll never get a spot close to your place. I frequently walk several buildings over when I come in late. But, I suppose if this is the biggest drawback, we're doing pretty well over here. Oh, they're also pretty strict on noise-makers and residents being responsible for their guests, which is FABULOUS. Overall, I'm really happy with this place, and, until we have kids, we won't be considering a move. Saving, literally, HUNDREDS a month on electricity, cable, high-speed, and even rent is just not worth a move.

It depends on where your apt is located, whether there is a problem finding a spot a night. I work nights, and always find a spot near my apt when I come in, granted it is not the one next to my door that I used when I worked days, but it is always very close to my apt, I would say no more than a distance of five apts away...or across a narrow driveway where the cars are lined up on either side.
I am sorry for your A/C troubles. My experience is that in 9 years (this time) I have had only two brief A/C outages, one of which was due Hurricanes Katrina/Rita. This alone is a major plus. Those of you who have lived in other apt. complexes will almost certainly agree

This place is crap! Hated it. My sister lived there for a quick second until her neighbor was strangled at 2 a.m. Safe, yeah right. They can write down any old license plate number, and get any apartment number, but that doesn't mean that's where they are really going.
