While this place maybe a "great" value, I'm not sure that it's worth the money saved. Before choosing our 1 bedroom apt. I informed the leasing agent that I was 5 months pregnant and asked if we should even bother with a 1 bedroom, because we did not wish to move apartments while handling a new born after our lease was up. Several times he said it would not be a problem, and the day we signed the lease, while doing the walk through with another agent, we mentioned that there was enough room in the bedroom for us and the new baby, and the agent started saying how we should have mentioned it, and when our lease was up we would have to move into a 2 bedroom. You better believe I'm not moving apartments for another 6 months at least after the baby is born. Convincing the maintenance staff that my dryer wasn't working was the biggest obstacle I've ever experienced. It took them coming to the apartment 5 times before they decided that my husband was seriously not going to just give up and use the laundromat. We are paying for a washer/dryer and we expect them to work properly. After FINALLY replacing their piece of crap machine with another piece of crap that at least works half way decently, they then came to the house at 8 am the next day without knocking and were going to do construction on the wall while I was in my bed sleeping. I called my husband obviously upset, and he called maintenance, who insisted that they wouldn't walk in without knocking. This was not the first time I had, had an issue with the staff walking into our home without knocking, early in the morning. About a week after moving in pest control walked in and started spraying after I said not to, with me in my bed PREGNANT. Then they wanted to know why I didn't want the bedroom sprayed. I've also had issues with the a/c, but according to the maintenance staff, it must just be me, because it works fine. Thats why I have to sleep with 2 fans and sweat my butt off during the day when the sun is out right' Nobody speaks english around this area. The guards do not respond to any kind of noise complaint at any time. You can seriously get raped and murdered here and the guards will never once check out the situation, or call the police. I swear my neighbors have 6 kids living in one apt, and while it maybe nice to have a pool in the center of each apartment block, how bout building a damn playground for these kids that need a place to blow off some of their energy, instead of running up and down the stairs! Oh and I hope you don't need a place to park, because after 6 PM, your taking a walk from your apt to your car. If you should be lucky enough to actually find a spot, you'll be sure to be one of the lucky people who has to park next to a HUGE truck, parked crooked, and someone is crawling through the opposite side of the car that you are on. Not that security will come around and leave a warning or anything.

Hmmm....some problems that I recognise, some that I do not ( after nearly a decade at LV) Lots of emotion which may alter the statements.
Only two persons per bedroom are allowed as residents. A statement of "not a problem" could have applied to the leasing agent saying that moving to a larger apt (in his mind) was not a problem for the apartment community. Of course a new mom is not interested in moving so soon, but how many young men will consider this?
I've Never had or known of anyone experiencing any maintenance person or pest control person coming in without knocking. Were both your deadbolts locked (basic home security) ? They only have a key to one of the locks, if you are inside with both the locks locked, this does not make sense. It is important for your general safety to get up after your husband leaves for work to lock the deadbolt even if it is inconvenient, which I admit it is.
Yes, I have heard the stackable laundry units and maintanence and repair of them is problematic - from a number of other residents- sad, they really need to do better.
Usually, and I do say usually - there may be exceptions like when an outside contractor is involved - you can either tell the worker to come back another time, and if necessary you can call the maintenance office to work out a schedule to fit your needs.
Anytime a tenant does not want thier apartment sprayed, they will ask why. No big deal, they just need to have a reason, yes, each time. Is it a pet, issue, or personal health issue?....whatever, just tell them, no biggie.
Maintenance takes a/c complaints seriously. But they do measure temperature by the mechanical thermostats and similar tools available to them, not by the "feels like" temp. Is there any chance that your experience is related to the increased blood pressure and sense of heat related to pregnancy? Heavy weight or thermal lined curtains can be be very helpful, if your budget allows this.
If you have not gotten a good response regarding the a/c call again, and again, till it is fixed or you get another solution.
Re: "nobody speaks English" perhaps you have a neighbor or two who speak additional languages, but if you have a neighbor who truly speaks no English, that seems to be the extreme rarity inside Lantern Village apartment complex. This may well not be the case in many of the surrounding complexes where a good deal of Mexico, Central and South American visitors seem to live where it seems that tenant #/bedroom and established good credit are not enforced, nor is maintenance tended.
The rule here in Lantern Village is - three noise complaints against a tenant and they are out. In all the time I have been here (nearly 10 years, this time) I have never had any complaint ignored. I would be quite surprised if any legitimate complaint from any tenant were ever ignored. I have seen tenants removed, and even employees fired when thier behavior did not conform to the stated policies of the complex.
There is a very large playground - a city park across Alder street from the complex. No need to construct one on the premises. There may be a need for parental control and it seems, also management intervention. File a complaint with the business office if management is not responding. Mary Worrell is the Property Manager and she takes her business very seriously and has done so for approximately 30 years. Call her. But do get your facts straight and leave out all the emotion and exageration as these will weaken your case with her and lessen your ability to get satisfaction.
Yes, the occasional larger pick-up truck squeezed into a space is an issue that needs to be addressed. Call Security to discuss this. If no resolution with Security, then call Mary Worrell.
"Quiet enjoyment" of ones apartment is a legal right in Texas. Read up on your tenant rights, and read the e-newletter from the Peoples lawyer who is often on ABC13.com Richard Alderman runs the Peoples Law School and can offer lots of helpful advice on his website and to those who take the time to attend the Peoples Law School for free ( runs twice per year - usually aprox. April and October. )
Good Luck. This really can be a good home. It does take tenants who care, to help management maintain the standards. When there is a problem - Tell the management.
Best Wishes for you and your baby!

"Happy Lantern" is not an employee/owner/manager or in any way compensated by Lantern Village. I am simply a long term resident who happens to believe that all tenants have an interest in having accurate information posted in hopes of finding and maintaining a good apartment community.
Emotion tends to cause exageration and error in statements and is therefore worth avoiding.
I hope that you find happiness and a place that suits you.

You're busted, you idiot. You couldn't even remember to use the same screen name. Obviously you work for the appartments. Stop brushing off your tenants' concerns and actually do something about it.

I don't care about your pregnancy, hormones, or the gross stupidity of moving into a complex with no handicap parking with a handicapped individual. What I care about is your inane rambling about a place I'm considering looking at.
Ps. Learn to separate your points into individual paragraphs. Wall of text for the loss.

You know, at first your insulting response really got to me, but here is a very simple response for you, I don't live there anymore, and you sound like you probably deserve to live in that hell hole. As for my stupidity to live in a place without handicap parking, it's REQUIRED BY LAW that the apt complex provide the spaces and handicap signs. Maybe you should quit worrying about how I separate my paragraphs, and start thinking about what I've said about the place, then go onto the other comments about this very same complex that REPEAT exactly what I've said. My inane rambling, was an explanation of the poor rating I gave Lantern Hell, and my specific issues. There were of course more issues, but these were the particular big issues, that MARY(resident manager)would not bother to correct. I'm also aware that she reads these posts. So Mary, you and your staff are the laziest people I've had the displeasure of dealing with. Quit hiring --------, that have no English vocabulary at all because they are cheap labor, consider your residents NEEDS, STOP being cheap, and think about the time and money that could be saved if you didn't waste your time reading this site and actually put forth a little effort to make Lantern Hell a better place to live. You might even get to raise the rent if you bothered to do that.
