Lantern Village is in a perfect location. It's right next to 59 and 610, and only a mile or so from the Galleria. Not to mention that Bellaire is right around the corner, which is a super nice area with great stores. And people don't realize this but if you just go down Chimney Rock a little farther past San Felipe you are in the same neighborhood as George Bush. Although Lantern Village may seem like it's in a bad spot...you only need to drive a little further to reach some of the nicest areas in Houston. I'm talking about million dollar homes and private schools only 5 miles away. However, the Gulfton area is NOT good. I avoid all stores around Lantern Village, including the horrible Kroger across the street. (HEB is nearby though and 1,000x nicer) Once you get inside of the apartment complex though it's like another world. I feel so safe here. Sometimes my boyfriend and I forget to lock the door at night and it doesn't even phase us. It is so quiet here and there is never anyone outside. The pools are always clean and nobody even uses them, so I always get the entire pool to myself. I've read a lot of people complaining about the parking, but I haven't had any problems. The poles are annoying though, and I have accdiently hit a pole while trying to park a couple of times. The leasing office is awesome, everyone that works in there is really nice and helpful. The maintenace is quick and they come the same day I call or immediately the next morning, even for small things like broken knobs. I think the grounds inside the apartment are pretty with nice landscaping and the video library is awesome (they are always getting new movies). The one thing I would change though is the old appliances and washer and dryer. While they are still in working condition, they definitely could use an upgrade. But at least the are included in the rent, which most apartments I looked at don't offer. Overall though, it's a spacious apartment, extremely affordable, close to colleges and shopping. My boyfriend and I are in college, so University of Houston is only 15 min. away. However, if I were done with college and had a family I wouldn't live here. It's just not a family friendly area.
