Stay away, they will take you down

Let's state it simply - People I know are moving out and out. They do it for reasons so don't come to the trap yourself. A few major warnings:

1)The noise is ridiculous. You not only hear the people above you walking, you hear them use washing machine. Not only you hear them showering, you hear them flushing the toilet too.

2)I've been here only hafl a year and I was scared by the fire alarms twice, all in midnights. I had a video uploaded to YouTube that you can watch.

3)The parking lot i used for 100 days was suddenly assigned to a new renter and I was not even notified until the guy occupied my spot for days.

4)During Hurricane Ike, half of the residents had to find another place to live by themselves for 2 weeks and the landlord refused to take a penny off the rent. They sent out attorney letters to tell people they still had to pay a full-month due.

5)With full amount of rent in the pocket, they took their time to repair the damage. The hurricane came and left in August and the repair was not done until December.

6)Office staff' I have no more comments. Trust what they say at your own risk. Just remember, they will take you down to make their money. Seriously.

Ok- I can't help but wonder - why are you posting on someone else's behalf? Can they not post their own review? With regard to the noise, this is standard. The MacGregor is built on a wooden frame. ANY apartment built on a wooden frame will have noise issues. I don't know if you are new to apartment living, but this is par for the course. Any time you live in a wooden-framed apartment, you will hear your neighbors. If you expect anything different from another apartment, you will be sorely disappointed. On the other hand, if your budget affords it, you should look at high rises. You will find better insulation, due to concrete protecting you, but you will also find a significantly higher price. In other words, this is standard and should be expected in this price range. If you're going to blame anyone for the fire alarms, blame the City of Houston. Building code requires developers to install obnoxiously loud fire alarms. The MacGregor, just like any newer building, was just doing what the law required in order to pass inspection. The fire alarms may be irritating (I've been awoken in the middle of the night by them as well, so I feel your pain) but they're standard. If you have anyone to blame, it's the legislation that REQUIRES deafening fire alarms to be installed. BTW, where is the link for this alleged video? I feel your pain regarding the parking situation. That's strange. Hurricane Ike left many people out. I dealt with this at my last apartment. I'd recommend renter's insurance, etc. as the best way to protect yourself. Pretty much everyone was put out by hurricane Ike, and I don't imagine it was possible for ANYONE to fix everything overnight. We all had to deal with it - everyone who suffered through hurricane Ike - and we got through it. I'm sorry that things weren't fixed immediately. Welcome to the real world. Everyone dealt with it, so put on your big boy (or girl) pants and get over it. I find it funny that you said absolutely nothing specific about the office staff. Do you care to elaborate? It sounds like you are saying something bad about them, but you never actually stated what they actually DID to make you so mad. If I were to guess, I'd say that you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Actually, paying the kind of rent The MacGregor is charging and hearing your neighbors flush the toilet IS NOT STANDARD. Clearly the response to the post was written by the office manager or other staff in The MacGregor's office. Further, if the building, as large as it is, was truly built on wood, not steel, this is a structural problem that means that the property is probably starting to deteriorate from the infrastrusture on out - thus, the reason the management required everyone to leave during the hurricane period - because they know it is not a safe or structurally sound structure. WOW!

Funny that the first response took more space than the original comment, just to tell the complaining witness "you shouldn't care". So typically an office staff response disguised as someone else. After paying the high rent to their pockets, you just shouldn't have anything to complain.

did they actually make you leave during hurricane ike, or did you choose to? The apartment I am living in now didn't take any rent off. But we were able to stay in our apartments if we chose, albeit without electricity or water for a few days. If they actually told you you had to leave that can't be legal? What happens if you have nowhere to do or are an invalid?

Hello, all! I'm the one who posted the first response, and it seems that some of you think that I am a member of the office staff. For the record, I am a current resident, and not a member of the staff. My name is Remington, and I live on the first floor. If you need to call me to make sure I'm a real person, my number is 2*8*1*3*2*3*0*5*3*5 (sorry, I just don't want my number coming up on google searches, etc., so please forgive the punctuation in the telephone number). In January, I spent a great deal of my time visiting apartments when I was looking to move. I found that this was the best deal within my price range. Are there cheaper apartments? Yes. The thing is, the cheaper apartments had less amenities, less square footage, or were in another part of town. If you were to compare other apartments in the Medical Center, you would find that they are far more expensive than the MacGregor. So, while the MacGregor is by no means cheap, it IS a bargain when comparing similar properties in the area. I'm sorry if you feel as though you're overpaying. Perhaps you can find a less expensive apartment to suit your needs, but you won't find it in this area. Outside the loop, yes, but not in the Medical Center. Although, if you have any specific apartments in mind that would disprove my statement, I'd be open to your suggestions. After all, I wonder what your point of comparison is. This brings me to my next point. Yes, it's annoying to hear your upstairs neighbor's toilet. I don't know where you guys have lived previously, but such a thing is common in an apartment built on a wooden frame. The MacGregor is concrete in the garage levels, but everything above the first floor is built on a wooden frame. Wood-framed apartments tend to be less expensive, as the construction is less expensive. I've lived in more than a few apartments, and I've never once found a wood-framed apartment that had sufficient sound insulation to muffle an upstairs neighbor's plumbing. I might just have bad luck, but I doubt it. It's always been my conclusion that it's to be expected that you will hear your neighbors in a wood-framed apartment. What apartments have you guys lived in that didn't have this problem? Clearly you guys have an issue that (surprise!) I'm siding with the apartment, and that I wrote so extensively in response to the original post. I got a notification about the review being posted because I previously posted a review, and after reading the above review, couldn't bear to stay silent. It just looked like a smear-job. After all, if you read what was originally said, it makes no sense. Why would this person write this anonymously, on behalf of people they know? Can't they write their own reviews? Or is it possible that they just don't want to own up to the ridiculous smear-job? I have to admit, if I'd written something that ridiculous, I'd be embarrassed, too. Also, has anyone noticed that this complaint about the office staff doesn't actually say what the office staff did? If they're so awful, wouldn't the reviewer want to say why? It sounded to me like they were just angry, and wanted to say something about the office staff for the sake of being spiteful. So, is anyone going to respond to this one?

that's unfortunate that you weren't informed about the ike concession. you should've gotten 1/2 month off for your december rent due to Ike. we got half month off as concession for the repair delays due to Ike for the month of december which amounted to $600, a big sum of money.
