I'm working in Houston for the summer, and needed a place to stay for 3 months. That's one great thing about Maryland Manor is they offer short term leases. I work in Greenway Plaza (5 minute commute to work) but MM is minutes from the Galleria, and a straight shot to downtown - not to mention RIGHT next to Rice. The location is unbeatable, and worth the price alone. Aside from that, the place is really low key. It seems like it's mostly Rice grad students, and on Saturday nights there is nothing going on, no noise, parties, etc really. That could be good for you, or bad depending on what you're looking for. There are only about 60 units in the place, maybe less than that. It's small, and feels a lot more "home"y than a lot of apartments i checked out. It took just a little bit of cleaning to get my apartment fixed up, but it looks great and feels clean. The manager's are really nice. Overall, great place. Check it out for yourself, don't take my word for it. I left my keys outside the door on my first night in because I was lugging so much stuff in I absent mindedly forgot them outside... they were there in the morning. That should tell you about the safety.
