AMLI IMO is the best apartment in this midtown neighborhood - and I've checked 'em all! Although it's now a bit on the old side, many little touches give it the edge over its neighbors. The many trees and residential side streets of townhomes around it give it the cozy, pedestrian-friendly feel that the newer upscale properties like 2222 and Calais do not have. And its distictive (but friendly) architecture gives it a personality ("and personality goes a long way"!) over others like Arbor Place and Camden.
On the practical side, things like no-florescent-light policy, crown molding and full-length mirrored wall (not seen anywhere else I know) give you a feeling of quality.
Now, on the downside. This is an urban environment, so homeless and young people are abundant. The only thing worse than the homeless hanging around & rummaging the apartment dumpsters is probably drunk young bar-hoppers yelling outside your window (and door) at 3 am. I have not been able to enjoy the main pool, as it's basically taken over for a non-stop frat party in the summer.
Parking - it's a whole other topic. It's often difficult to nab convenient spots, especially in evenings. That's ok if not for the many outside bar-hoppers that brazenly tail you into the garage from Thursday to Sunday nights (and why all the break-ins do you think') and worse, drive wrong-way up the one-way and into the exit gate. And to top it off, the swarm of HPD and towtrucks that ticket and tow you on the slightest provocation. Welcome to the city!
Sound & insulation can be a problem - neighbor's footfalls and dog barks can come thru, although not TV or stereo for some reason. Landscaper's motor starts early and often on weekdays - you don't need an alarm :-)
Last, the office and maintenance staff have been faultless and prompt. They do organize nice events and you meet some interesting people here.
