I love the neighborhood here. You've got all the bars and restaurants within walking distance, and beautiful oak tree lined streets. Having those trees out the window is pretty awesome and makes me want to keep the blinds open all the time.
The floor plans are quite good, focusing on nice open spaces. The only thing about the layout of my apartment that I don't like is that the kitchen is too small and the bathroom is too big, I can't help but feel they could have done something there. What's a shame is that the apartments are cheaply finished. The windows offer very little sound insulation, so I can hear my neighbors' awkward phone calls and conversations that they like having on their balcony, and every time drunk people are walking back to their cars (great idea, no') I can hear every word that they say. The walls are also pretty thin and hollow so some noises carry through... mostly just murmur from tv sets, bass from stereos, and and dog barks. All in all it's not that bad - it's always faint, and never a constant thing. The linoleum floors and plastic tub are hard to get looking spotlessly clean. The bathroom sink is too small, the freezer has an icemaker that doesn't work, the carpet is coarse, nappy, and cheap feeling, and the paint can be scraped off the walls with a fingernail. I would four star the place if not for that... and you'll have to decide if you're ok with the cheap finishings in exchange for cheaper rent.
I have found the office and maintenance people to be pretty good most of the time. I've only had problems where the maintenance staff didn't understand exactly what the problem was on their first visit. It also took them forever to clean up the roof after hurricane Ike. Scraps of metal have been lying around up there until today, and those could have caused a lot of damage if a hurricane or tornado came through. It also meant 25% of the parking lot was off limits and it made a hell of a lot of creaky noises on a windy day. Safety could be better. Multiple entry points and no real form of security. It was pretty scary after Ike since the garage and hallways were pitch black, the garage doors open, and again, no security. The hallways are always dirty since they pick up trash twice a week. The trash is left in garbage bags that stray cats get at. The floor isn't finished well enough to be stain proof, so their are splotches of grime everywhere. Lazy people leave their trash out for days at a time (---- you lazy people!). The gym and pool are great. Don't pay attention to the other amenities like the lounge (closed when working people are home) or the events. The events don't happen as frequently as promised, and the only one all year that was worthwhile was the pool party. Otherwise it's like... a MAC makeup counter, or speed dating where there is a $40 registration fee for men.
