Think twice before you sign!

I have been a resident at the Metropole since October of 2007. On my move-in day I arrived to the apartment to find that the single elevator near my apartment was non-functional. It took the front office two hours to get it working which delayed my move in and cost me an additional two hours with the movers (which the Metropole refused to pay). I later came to find out that there were many frustrated residents who had been placed in hotels due to the delay in the on-site apartment construction.
I decided to give the Metropole a second chance to redeem itself, which unfortunately didn't last too long. A couple of weeks into my lease, the apartment began having problems with the fire alarm. The alarm would ring at all hours forcing people and their pets to vacate apartments and congregate in the garage for up to an hour at a time. The alarm once went off at 3am on a week day. Once again, the office staff did not claim responsibility for the alarm, instead stated that it was set off by careless residents who were cooking in their apartments.
Above all else, my major complaint regarding the Metropole is the lack of security. I am a single female and I DO NOT feel safe living here. There have been multiple robberies which have occurred on the property due to an obvious lack in security. There are no guards upon entering the garage and no video camera s to protect residents coming to and from their vehicles. The management states that they have a police officer who lives on site but I have yet to see or meet him. The gate we use to access the garage malfunctions almost weekly, which can at times can leave you unable to access your apartment. Resident's vehicles have been targeted multiple times ranging from break-ins to wheels being stolen and the car left on cinder blocks. The blatant lack of security has left residents fearful of parking their car in their own garage overnight.
Overall, my sole purpose in writing this review is to give apartment searchers some insight into living here before signing a lease. Please make sure that management is fixing some of these issues before even considering moving in here!

Everything you have said is true. The invisible police officer who supposedly lives here has Never been seen. If the back gate isn't wide open, it seems the front gate surely is. There is absolutely no security here But They Do advertise security in the Metropole brochure... limited access to the buildings... means Nothing! I have never had so many fire alarms go off on a property. Of course, this is the resident's cooking - no fault of management or the owner!!! 2 weeks ago, we had fire alarms ranging from 1 to 3 per day for 3 days in a row, on Friday , Saturday and Sunday.... its all about residents who cook badly.... however, if you want wheels removed from your car, the Metropole can accommodate you on a regular basis.

I just want to echo everything said above. I have already posted two reviews about the lack of security. This place is truly unbelievable! The best part about it all is their complete lack of communication, too. The management has never once sent out communication about the fire alarms just to simply let us know what the deal is (at least for peace of mind so we know there wasn't really a fire). The lack of visible security, though, has to be my favorite. For what we pay, it is despicable and absolutely negligent on their part to not have security. I'm moving out before my lease is up just to feel safer somewhere else!!

I've sent management letters requesting they inform us about the issues with the fire alarms, and a letter to inform us about what they plan on doing to alleviate the illegal parking in the garage. It's ridiculous how they send us letters when there is criminal activity in the parking garage, and then remind us that safety is "our" responsibility. How in the heck are we supposed to monitor our cars at night?!?! I was told there would be cameras in the parking garage and in the halls. What a joke. And congrats on having a police officer and management living in the complex. What can a police officer do from his apartment? I mean seriously now. I don't know one person who is resigning their lease. It's a shame because I really like my apartment but can't stand how ghetto the complex has become since I moved in last August.

The fire alarms went off because a resident took their alarm censor off their ceiling. This caused the main alarm to go off, because all the apartments are connected to the main controller. When the alarms were going off for 3 days in a row, it was because fire inspectors were trying to track down the faulty wire (which was in a residents apartment who disconnected theirs). Notices were sent out stating that the alarms were going to be off. This was an unfortunate event, and hopefully it won't happen again.
