We moved into the Metropole months before they had the occupancy permit. Although on a weekly basis they promised they would be receiving it, we waited patiently while living out of a suitcase in a nearby hotel. (to their credit, they did cover the hotel for almost 2 months).

Sure during our stay there were small things that went wrong, but they were the types of things that always pop up when renting. Nothing to complain about.

There were four things that pushed us over the edge:

- We had a reoccurring water leak in our apartment that took 3 separate attempts to fix. Granted this is not the leasing office's fault, but reflects poorly on the maintenance staff. I understand a hurricane hit Houston. But if the problem was fixed the first two times, we would have not had a waterfall in our living room during IKE.

- The leasing office RAVED about the fancy expensive gate they were installing a couple weeks after we moved in. It's almost laughable how many times the gate has been broken since. It's a small inconvenience during the day to wait for someone to exit so you can get in. The big problem is when the gate decides to break after hours, and you are stuck outside your OWN apartment for up to 30 minutes. This has happened to me on 3 separate occasions. When I pay this much in rent, I'd like to be able to come and go freely.

- The main reason we moved in and renewed were the leasing specials. On both occasions they were explained in a way that misled us to believe we would be paying less each month. We ended up paying what we thought was correct each month until we exhausted our special before the end of our lease term. This led to rental rate shock of our rates increasing by over $400. Imagine how it feels to be told that your rent has just risen $400 and there is nothing you can do about it. I fault myself for not paying closer attention to the lease, but I also fault the leasing office for not notifying us when we were paying hundreds of dollars less than what was agreed upon.

- The parking garage is a nightmare. Just drive through it a couple times and you will understand. It's not worth explaining.

While I do believe the office always had the best interest of the tenants, we just had too many empty promises and misleading conversations to feel good about our stay at the Metropole.

I couldn't agree more - with EVERYTHING you said. They screwed me on my special as well - they told me the wrong amount to pay for my first few months - then hit me with a nice bill to cover their mistake! the gate was a nightmare - I've written about it before. I now live in a much better place - 24 hour security that is ALWAYS visible, camera, a gate that is never broken, fabulous parking - in a garage AND right in front of the apartment, excellent maintenance staff, etc. And - to think, I am paying $400 less per month - and getting more space, more convenience, a big patio, etc. The Metropole is a joke for gullible people who want to say they live in a fancy place but really it's quite cheap and so poorly run that it's a disgrace. I'm one of those suckers, but now I'm out! yay! :)

I couldn't agree more with both of the above. I moved out in July. It was almost as much of a nightmare as moving in. I drive by there quite often on my way to businesses that are near there. When I was moving I was told that finally the low-rise was going to get screens for the sliding glass doors. I happen to drive by today and still no screens. That's just sad. I'm so glad I moved. I took a chance on mid-town, love it! Though my complex is not brand-new what a location. I walk to great restaurants, clubs, the grocery, Spec's liquor is practically across the street and take the train when I have to go to the med. center. The only thing I don't like is not being able to see the on-coming traffic.

A lot of the problems are the fault of the owner, the 3 owners who built the Metropole. The construction is cheap, I am sorry you had a waterfall in your living room. The apartments are pretty inside but the construction is of poor quality in both the residential buildings and the garage. Management's misleading or outright lying to residents, just to get leases signed is inexcusable. ---- Both the owners who are making the bulk of the profit ---- I saw one owner very recently on the property ---- he was VERY Expensively Dressed and driving a VERY Expensive Car ( It was insulting, given all that we have put up with around here ) ---- as well as the management are to blame for the dissatisfaction at the Metropole.

I am happy to see all of the responses here, I def do not want get caught in places like the Metropole if the rent is so high for nothing.
