I have lived at the apartment complex since July 2005. I have been a good resident always paying my rent on time. I have been leasing a parking space for the past 2 years. Recently, due to more travel with my job, I have not been at my apartment on a consistent basis. Unfortunately, that means that people who are not paying the $30 a month for my parking space are parking in it. When this was brought to the attention of the office staff, very little was done. Parking space violators are allowed 24 hours to move their vehicles after having a orange tag stuck to their windshield. There was much delay in putting the orange tag on the vehicles after talking to the office manager and the leasing consultants. I eventually had to ask for an orange tag to stick on the vehicles myself. Excuses included that the vehicle was gone by the time they went to tag it. One vehicle was there for 3 whole days. I went to complain 2-3 times. On another instance when home for lunch, another vehicle is parked in my parking space. After calling the office staff, the car was still untagged an hour after I made the phone call to the office.
To make matters worse, I renewed my lease for 3 months. The first lease I signed increased the rent from $765 to $785. I get a call about 3 weeks later saying that the rent on the lease I signed was wrong. It has now increased to $1035. I have been a good long time resident paying my rent on time and paying for a carport spot that keeps getting used by other people who are not paying for it. Now, I'm told I have to pay the market rate of $935 and an additional $100 for the short term lease. Give me a break. I decided not to renew the reserved parking spot fee. I did this last week. My expectation is that the parking spot still belongs to me until the new lease starts in September. I come home for lunch today (8/24/07) and another vehicle is parked in my space. I call the office staff Kristy and am told that after I signed the second revised lease last week, that they put my parking spot up for rental. I've already paid for the month of August. That spot is technically mine until the end of August. I am asking for a prorated refund for the parking space. $1/day. In principal, I'm very upset with the office staff and their handling of the parking space situation as well as the increase in rent. They should have gotten the lease corrected before I signed it at the end of July. I'll leave it to you to judge whether to live here or not. I'm very concerned about the competence of the office staff at this apartment complex.
