BEWARE

Years at this apartment:
2005
-
2006
I lived here for a year when I was going to law school.
The leasing agent was a really nice black lady, who is no longer working there. They have replaced her with a Hispanic and white lady. The Hispanic lady is attractive, but very contrite, rude, and condescending.
Well...
First Impression - The first 6 months were pretty good and I had no complaints. My neighbors were quiet so the thin walls really didn't matter.
Noisy Neighbors - After 6 months, the complex began to lease to anyone. I had 3 neighbors within 6 months! I complained about all of them because they would play loud music at 3 a.m.! I had to call the police on them, but the noise would just start again the next day. The maintenance office didn't seem to care about all of my noise complaints.
Maintenance - The maintenance calls usually get responded to pretty quickly though. If you have a leaky faucet they usually come out right away. My dishwasher was fixed twice... and worked right after it was fixed, but then it got messed up again. I'm really not sure why, since I rarely used it.
Energy Cost - The cost of using your A/C is really crazy!
Smell - Something in my closet smelled since day one. I've tried masking it with OUST but the smell is seemingly coming out of the walls. The building was also repainted so the paint smell is in the hallways.
Pest Problems - I never had a problem with pests until a month before my move-out date. I had massive swarms of ants crawling out of my bathroom. I remembering waking up one morning and waiting for the water to get hot... when i felt about 12 ant bites on my foot. Let's just say I was not happy that morning! After a 2 weeks of complaining nothing happened. My lease ended in 2 weeks so it didn't even matter.
Move Out - I moved with no problems. However, about 9 months later I received a letter saying that I owed fees. I went to the apartment complex and they told me that I did not give a month's move out notice and my apartment was dirty. Luckily, I had a copy of a letter stating that I had notified the office of my move out date. Then I they said I owed a lot of fees: (i) dirty oven fee; (ii) dirty bathroom; and (iii) rotted sink.
Ok, I did leave the oven dirty so I happily paid for it. But the dirty bathroom and rotted sink was not my fault.
The toilet bowel was dirty because I use a blue toilet cleaner. Since no one was using the toilet for a week, it left a blue ring around the toilet. This could easily be removed.
Also the bathroom sink was rotted because it was eroded. The faucet leaked and the stains are copper/rust stains. How is it my fault that the cheap sink began to rust and rot' Seriously.
Current problems - Just a few months ago the debt collector called again. It seems that the apartments didn't tell them that I had already paid my dues. I had to go back to the apartment complex (which is annoying) and they ended up having to fax something to the company. This was annoying because the debt collector said that he only wanted to speak with someone at the leasing office, but the leasing agents did not want to speak with anyone from the debt collection! This was annoying and forced me to take off work early to go over there!)
I would definitely not recommend this apartment for other reasons too:
1. The mail room is always dirty. The trashcan and the floors are usually piled with ads.
2. The Hispanic girl in the leasing office is rude with no people skills. I work as a Manager at an IT company and I don't understand how people in customer service can't smile, be polite, or act with decorum.
However, there are pros:
1. The other tenants seem pretty nice and always say hello to you when you walk by.
2. The pool is never heavily occupied.
That's pretty much it.
