My neighbor just advised me they are putting out cat traps next week. I moved here because I was advised by the office staff they are pet friendly - Is that ever a lie. I let my cat out for daily exercise (supervised) once a day and now I have to worry about cat traps' This is outrageous. I can't wait for my lease to expire for I can move. My cat deposit (non refundable) was $300.00. too high. Also, maintenance doesn't always call before they enter and what if my cat accidentally ran out only to get caught in a cat trap' Also, I found the girls at the office tell little white lies of why items are not being repaired in a timely manner. I should know, I have lived here three years. It is always the same, one little lie after another why something didn't get repaired on time. IF YOU HAVE ANIMALS AVOID!! You'll save yourself a lot of heartache.

Is there a reason you are being so degrading? Possibly you work for Southpoint? The issue is the garbage that is being picked up on door step. Should be put in the trash bin.Possum and rats eat garbage. You have to step over garbage on the way to the car. The cats keep the mice and rats in check.$300 NON REFUNDABLE deposit is high, check around.

The cats also dig in the trash and poop all over the property. The cats scare residents who don't like cats and residents that keep their dogs on a leash also have to worry about cats attacking them as well. You pay a pet FEE to keep the animals in YOUR apartment. You don't see dogs running around free, do you? If you care so much about your cat, keep it inside, and buy a kitty litter box, or buy a house! By the way, maybe they should get rid of the trash pick up service. Afterall, that is a courtesy.

The trash problem is a huge issue here. I agree with dontlikesouthpoint on this issue. Animals (i.e. possum, rats, cats) will break into garbage bags. This is why you don't put your garbage out at the curb the night before at your house but on the morning of trash pick up. That said, this IS a very easy fix ~ discontinue door to door trash pick up. It will also help solve much of your cat issue (food source) Their are dumpsters conveniently located by each apartment building.
Next, instead of the us against them mentality, why not work for a mutually acceptable resolution> I would like to believe most of us care about the stray cats here at Southpoint. I am sure many of the ladies in the office even have pets themselves. We ALL want a community we take pride in.
I did look at the Houston SPCA website and this is what it states: (by the way, this is an extremely overwhelmed and underfunded agency)
"clients with feral cat issues will be given information of trap, neuter and release programs and directed to feral cat groups working to humanely control feral cat populations" I am quoting this verbatim.
Has Southpoint managment/Alliance residential explored this option?????
Personally, I have never seen a cat attack anyone and that sounds a little bit over the top. As far as dogs running around, many dogs run around (off leashes) in the morning but their owners are near by. I do NOT feel this is an issue.
As far as the $300.00 pet deposit, I personally feel this is fair. I haven't had many maintenance issues. However, I have had to ask several times to correct an issue that I was promised would be taken care of before I moved in. In defense of the girl at Southpoint, much of this issue seems to have been out of their control. I do feel for the most part the complex is maintained nicely.
My thoughts...these are easy fixes, time for everyone to put their emotions aside and work on the problem. In the end, you might find management and the residents are both striving for the same obejective.

HOPE 713-622-4673 WWW.HOMELESSPETS.NET
SNAP WWW.SNA It is for cats, I didn't name it
Let's first give Southpoint the opportunity to positively correct the issue. I will update.

Let me get something straight. I work in the apartment industry. I do not work for Southpoint Nor Alliance Residental. I do shop around on a monthly basis, I have a monthly comparable report that is due at the end of the month with my accounting month end. So Yes $300 is very reasonable. Use more than once source. As I stated in my comment "Give it a chance." Residents like you are the ones that I wrote about. Your just unhappy! You dont get your way, and BLAH BLAH BLAH! I have been in the apartment industry for 9 yrs... nothing new to me! As far as me being degrading...well you open yourself up to that when you post negative comments about people and places on such websites. The Cats. Again letting your animals out opens your apartment to getting infested with fleas, parasites, and such. They are a pain the butt to get rid of. And I am sure (knowing from past experiance) that you will be the first one bitching about it! Now, let us not forget that there are people that will go out of their way to hit an anamil that is in the street or driveway. Or will hurt or kill an pet on person. That being said. I spoke to the manager after reading your comment about the cat traps. I am proud PETA member who donates A LOT of money to them and the SPCA. That was my concern...if they had contacted them. Now as dealing with the staff here since I moved in, and having no reason to believe that they would tell a little white lie...I was told that the Houston SPCA will be trapping the cats. In my opinon that is the best thing for them, and yes it is very humane.
On another note. I would advise you to read your lease contract. Paragraph 28 When we may enter---work order request...grounds for entering. And judging by your comments, I am sure if they read what you have written they would exactly know who you were (as do I know what and by who was written about my residents.) There is a nice little clause in your lease, and I strongly recomend that you read it...Paragraph 20...at the very end. Injuring our reputation by making bad faith allegations against us to others... (freedom of speech does not protect this website) since you pen pointed those who work in the office-it COULD be grounds for them to evict you. If you lived at my property, I would have served you a 24 hr Notice to Vacate for Breach of Lease in a HEARTBEAT and been at the JP the following morning. Have a great day!

You have to ask yourself would you live at this complex if you could have a neighbor like anonymous ( 4/3) reply? NO. I live at a complex in Clear Lake and no one traps cats. I have never heard of something so ludicrous. I have friends that live in this complex because it is conveniently located to our job. However, it still is in crime ridden South Houston. For your own safety and that obviously of your pets (per above comments) I suggest Clear Lake. For the money this complex charges you can live like a king/queen in Clear Lake!

No entity can restrict the right to free speech, ESPECIALLY by threat of retaliation. You could evict them for it, but if they are telling the truth, they can sue the pants off you for it.
