Gone Downhill, Beware of Apts Next Door!
From: RVD26Date posted: 2/16/2007
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I moved into the Steeples in December of '04 and honestly the place was nice and the office staff was nice as well.
This was my very first apartment ever so I had nothing to really compare it to.
After a while however, the quality of the place started to really go down and the office staff started to have a high turnover rate.
Every month I went into the office to pay rent, there were new people working who seemed to have no clue about anything.
The office manager that works upstairs in the office is extremely RUDE and completely unwilling to be of any assistance.
You have to call maintenance up to 5 times before anyone shows up.
Overall, the people living there are mostly honest, hardworking folks however a few shady people did start to move in after Katrina hit.
You could see other people flocking to leave and that left a LOT of empty units and therefore led to the apartment being desperate to fill the units apparently with no regard to who moved in.
There are supposed to be 2 entrance gates and one exit gate, but they locked off 2 of the gates so there was only ONE gate and that gate was usually not working.
There would be trash all over the place a lot of the time, especially near the dumpsters because apparently people come from other places to dump their trash there.
The laundry centers started to become a joke because only about half of the washers actually worked. When I complained about the machines, I was referred to ANOTHER company to call them and was never given a refund.
I'm a muscular guy that can hold his own, but even I felt unsafe at night sometimes because of the lack of lighting (especially near the mailboxes) and the shady people that would just hang out on the premises.
I never ONCE saw security around the place.
And now I finally come to the absolute worst thing about the Steeples and that's the Apartment next door, The Bentworth.
They are a Section 8 apartment, so you can pretty much imagine the kind of folks that literally live right next door to you.
Loud music all day and night, loud arguments and fights almost on a daily basis, random people loitering during the day including in the Steeples because the "gate" does nothing to separate them, gunshots at night, police cars, and so on and so on.
Pizza places won't deliver to the Steeples at night because of that apartment.
I hear they are remodeling the place but the same people will probably remain there with the same problems.
I would NOT recommend moving into this place at this time.

Manager's Response |

| The Steeples requires every applicant to pass a complete back ground check before being approved and allowed to move in. We follow strick guidelines that do not allow us to move in unqualified applicants. At one point the two back gates were closed down but this was done in order to discourage residents from The Bentworth coming on to the property. The Bentworth was completly closed down (everyone was asked to vacate) and sold to Abbey Residental which is a company that has also set high standard for all residents that are moving in. | |
