Towne Plaza was the talk of the town as the ultamate place to live in Houston. During the swinging 70s, there was a nightly and weekend hot spot called "Rosa's Cantina". it was one of the hotest singles scene in Houston. The current leasing office and gym occupies the space where Rosa's once entertained the masses.
By 1985 I went to check out TP for my very first apartment. I remember my family speaking of the old days there and It was my turn. To my suprise, at the manager's office, an elderly woman named Leeta who wore ear rings bigger than her head handed me several keys and a map. She told me to just go and look for one that I liked. Some of the buildings were not even livable. So much roof damage from leaks and actual roof cave ins. At that time TP was owned by different owners. One group would one bulding and other groups would own seperate buildings. They looked out for their own building. (WOW)an accounting nightmare. I found a 1 bed 1 bath on the third floor with floor to ceiling windows and a huge bay window in the bedroom. At any direction you would look out, you saw the Williams Tower. I had the best view in the entire complex. I lived their for 8 years. Once the Finger Company bought the property, the began all the reconstruction. They provided free beer and wine coolers at the pools every weekend until the construction was over. The rental rates began going up and what use to be all bills paid was changed with no reduction in rent. Eventually all the long time renters began to move out and many went to the suburbs and rest is history.
