We only lived here for 4 mos. before being let out of our lease. Prior to that things were okay, but we still had our issues. The carpet was filthy when we moved in with several large stains that didn t come out when they had the it cleaned. By all accounts it should have been replaced, I m sure that the manager Sherri Fletcher will blame it on us and charge us to have it replaced out of spite (more on this later ). There is a (spider/roach/ant) problem, they said that they d come and spray but it never happened to my knowledge. Parking was okay at first, then they took up a lot of prime parking to turn into covered parking spots. Mounts of dirt concrete sat around in the parking lot for weeks on end. The pool and Jacuzzi were closed most of the summer with no real explanation. Even worse was that my apt (unit 108) had a pool view of the disgusting green water. Aside from that the minor annoyances of the raucous horseplay at the pool, and the neighbors leaving their trash out and grilling in the breezeway (FIRE HAZARD!) that s all I could really complain about. This is where things get interesting and where we chose to get out. In late July a maintenance man entered our apartment without permission. This isn t so bad on it s own but consider that my sons mother was home alone at the time and watched him from under the master bedroom door root through her purse and some bags in the living room before continuing on to my son s room. This is documented on a 911 call, she was on the phone with them while he was doing it. He left after she yelled that she had a gun, even locked up behind himself (Management refuses to hand over the key log to this day). I arrived at the same time as the Sheriff deputies, they cleared the house and wrote the intrusion off as maintenance having the wrong unit (thanks for blowing us off guys!), the maintenance man (Jose Cruz) was present when the officers arrived and claimed that no one was inside only to come back and admit to being in the apt after they left. I had the manger Sherri come down so we could explain what was going on and to see what they were going to do about it. We were told bluntly that they would let us out of the lease while simultaneously being very careful not admit any responsibility. I then called the VP of Devonshire Real Estate and Asset Management Nick Slaughter. He echoed Sherri s sentiments, declining to fire Jose saying and I quote, He s worked for me for 10 years, I don t think he d do anything like that. After asking him to explain how the items were moved to different rooms and what he was doing in our apt in the first place he said that it was all a mistake . I put in my 30 day notice the following week. After doing some investigating it looks like maintenance may be filling out bogus work orders to gain access to people s apartments to scout out or steal valuables, I was told by Sherri that we had a work order entered to fix the master bath toilet, not only was our toilet never broken or did we put in an order she said that we were home when maintenance came to fix it! Sherri has refused to return my phone calls, hand over pertinent information and has generally been uncooperative through the whole ordeal. Not only that but the thief is still working there, and still has access to the entire complex! Here s a link to a recorded conversation where she refuses to answer my questions, ignores me while standing in her office, then walks away from me, ect. You ll need RealPlayer to listen.
