Nice Apartments But NOT Recommended by Long-Term Resident
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 11/15/2009
Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
For the price, TEP is probably nicer than other apartments in the area... at first glance, that is.
The apartments themselves have spacious layouts and optional washer/dryer, but the walls are paper thin and the apartments are not energy efficient (appliances, A/C, etc.). Additionally, the apartments do not keep out heat well - my summer electric bills top $250 for a one bedroom apartment, which is ridiculous.
The grounds are kept fairly well... nothing spectacular but it works. However, there is dog crap everywhere. This complex needs a "pet walking" area or a similar designated location for residents with pets.
Maintenance generally responds within 48 hours, so that's all good, but the staff in the leasing office is rude. I think it may be a personality thing - even when they don't have something mean to communicate they come across as nasty. Additionally, the staff communicates with residents through mail on the door. Their "reminders" are annoying and unwelcome, especially notices saying my car will be towed if I don't update my car inspection. Seriously' Mind your own business!
Neighbors are obnoxious and sometimes creepy. I'm sorry, but I do not want to be any one of your best friends; please leave me alone. Don't assault me with gossip about other neighbors because frankly, I don't give a crap about them either. In the past year, "chatter" has increased dramatically. For safety reasons, I like to know who my neighbors are and I don't mind a "hi" or "how's it going" here or there, but I do not want to know every single detail about their lives as soon as I set foot out of my door or car. I am going to freak out if one more person tells me they caught so-and-so's dog crapping by their patio.
The fitness center is a joke. The treadmill has been broken off and on for years and most of the free weights are missing. Also there is no access to the restroom nearby so you'll have to run back home if you need to use the restroom while working out.
There are plenty of amenities boasted when you sign the lease, but don't expect to actually use the big TV, business office, or pool table in the leasing office. They're only accessible as long as the leasing office is open, which is general business hours.
The front gate is broken nearly every weekend.
The hot tub does not work consistently. People drink and get a little crazy in the pool after hours. THIS IS NOT GIRLS GONE WILD - KEEP YOUR TOP ON, PLEASE!
The electricity goes out frequently, much more so than the neighboring apartments/shopping centers/neighborhoods.
One of the main reasons I do NOT recommend TEP is within the past year or so there has been the need for increased police activity - lots of break-ins (cars and apartments), one drug bust that I know of, lots of domestic disputes, and several unexplained arrests (the leasing office just won't tell what's going on most of the time). It's just getting ridiculous. There isn't much the management company can do about it aside from hiring a private security guard (which I believe they did, I see a car "patrolling" in the evenings sometimes) or something similar, but safety is a huge concern for me.
Considering all of the downsides, it's not worth it. I've dealt with it long enough and want to get out of here as quickly as possible.
PS: I intentionally used inaccurate information for the "Years at this apartment" information. Just know I have lived here for several years, and am a current resident.
