2111 Holly Hall was not such a bad place to live. If you want dirt cheap, you've got it. The establishment is 30 years, and shows it. I lived there for 14 months and for about 2 months the entrance gate was open all the time after someone had run into it. The guards that are on duty often have to woken up at night if you want in so don't think that they'll be there to protect you! The apartments are what you would expect for a 30 year old complex. Squeaky floors, horrible plumbing, and weird electricity needs. Our light bill ranged from $95-156 every month-- even in December when we turned off the AC for 2 weeks and went home for the holidays...stilll $95.
We called about once a month to get our bathtub fixed. We tried Drano and using a hair catched, and still we were constantly calling maintenance.
Maintenance is the ONLY thing that was decent at holly hall. They would show up with a day or two.
The worst part was when I moved out. MAKE SURE YOU GET A RECEIPT when you move out or you will definitely regret it. We signed a 12 month lease and then lived there month-to-month for 2 months. We called and asked them what those monthly rate would be at the beginning of both of those months. They quoted us an low rate, and then called us back to tell us the higher "real" rate that we had to pay. When we moved out, my roommate was assured, verbally only, that all of our bills were paid and we owed nothing.
When I called 6 weeks later to find out why I was getting a water bill forwarded to me and why I had yet to receive my deposit, they just said "Yeah, give it some more time." Finally, 2.5 months after moving out of there, I went to their office. They told me that I wouldn't get my deposit back because I owed $125 for not telling giving them my 2 months notice and that I owed rent money. Apparently, they had misquoted me the rent for those to additional months and wanted to take the money out of my deposit. Just so you know, TEXAS LAW DOES NOT ALLOW AN APT COMPLEX TO WITHHOLD YOUR DEPOSIT FOR RENT MONEY. They have to give you your deposit and then ask for their money. Even the manager admitted that the office had been a mess during the summer in which I moved and realized I didn't owe money. But she still claimed I would only get $22 of my deposit because of the rent misquote even though she acknowledged that it was their fault. The manager assured me that she would work on getting my deposit back to me since I was such a good tenant. I gave her my phone number to call me, which she never did. A few weeks later, I called the office to find out what happened and I was assured by a male employee that the manager had arranged for me to get my entire deposit back. I got a $55 check instead of the $100 I was due. THEN to make matters worse, I started getting calls from bill collecting agency threatening to ruin my credit if I didn't pay them the $125 I now owed them. Apparently, the manager had "forgotten" to tell me when I went in that she had already turned my file over to them. When I called the office to tell her to call them and get them off my back, she was nearly yelling at me that she had already talked to the agency. Of course, the agency had no record of any fax or phone call from her. She assured me that she would call again, and to make sure that I would not have my credit ruined, I went to the office to make sure they faxed the agency a statement saying I didn't owe money. It took them about half an hour to even find my file. Finally the asst. manager sent it in to the agency. Since the manager wasn't there, no one had a clue what was going on with my deposit.
When I called again, the asst. manager told me that the manager said I would not get the rest of my depost, but didn't give me a reason. So I called the manager a few days later, and she told me "call back at the end of the week and I'll be able to tell you about your check." She must have forgotten that she was going on vacation when she said that because when I called back as told, she was on vacation.
I then tried calling Ledic, the corporation that owns Holly Hall, but they referred me to the Houston Regional manager for help. That person said she would email the manager and tell her to give me oney from their petty cash. I talked to the manager twice and arranged a time to get the petty cash. When I arrived the manager had "left on an emergency" and, of course, no one else could give me the money....It's been 5.5 months now and next week I'm going back again to try to get the rest of my money...
My advice it to not clean your apt. That way you at least get something out of the $100 they steal from you.
