They also kept my security deposit after telling me how I kept my apartment in such great shape. This is completely illegal and I did contact them several times but this is how they justified it: I lived there two years and when I renewed, they changed the lease saying I had to give 60 days notice instead of 30. Well when I went to give notice about 45 days before I moved out, they informed me I would have to live there at the market rate for a month or I could forfeit my security deposit. I enjoyed my two years there (other than the noise from very loud neighbors) but this ruined my experience. However, be aware that if they don't return your security deposit or give you an itemized list of why they don't, you can sue them for triple that amount. Unfortunately, they got around this with me! Also, when I moved in they were remodeling. I asked them 3 times if my apartment was away from where they were doing work and they assured me it was. After living there about a week, I was woken up every morning to hammering--they had not finished remodeling my apartment.
