There was another break in at the Vanderbilt on yesterday, Monday, Dec. 3, 2007! It was revealed that a female tenant that has resided there over 4 years was the latest victim of a break in. The scary thing is that when the neighbors were asking what happened it was revealed that several of them located in the same area had the same thing happen to them previously. Last week (Nov. 26 - Nov. 30) similar break ins had occurred just like this one. Why did management not relay this info to the other tenants' They certainly can post flyers on your door trying to get you to extend your lease or recommend a friend to move in. They also put flyers blasting the tenants (even the innocent ones) when they feel the Vanderbilt is not profiting or God forbid if they feel you owe them additional funds. Another revelation that came out is the fact that each of the tentants in this area (which is located in the back) has also had their cars burglarized (sometimes multiple times) and this same tenant had her car burglarized and two months later stolen and completely destroyed because the trash that stole it got into a high-speed chase with Harris County. What is it going to take for this property to realize they need to take drastic and immediate measures now! The next incident I'm afraid will be the loss of life because they are allowing low-life, non-moraled, lazy individuals to live here. They have no loyalty to the long-time residents who go to work everyday, avoid disturbances and just mind their own business. Is it an inside job' That came up as well. If not, it is someone that is residing on the property and observing the schedule of the victims. So again, why lock your door when all someone is going to do is kick it in and enter your private domain, rummage through your property, eat your food, yes, eat your food and steal your possessions. According to the police department they are at this complex weekly because of these issues but tenants are never notified of such. And oh yea, guess what they increased this tenants rent. Now I know why so many are moving out! Maintenance is the only decent thing about these apartments.

As mentioned in previous management responses, yes we screen all of our residents but unfortunately their guests cannot be. We are still actively working with the Sheriff's Department patrolling the community. Management continues all take any action necessary to address all resident concerns. I have an open door at anytime to discuss issues with a current or future resident of the Vanderbilt.

As a potential resident with the idea of moving in, this is the kind of information that is needed. Its no wonder the apartment complex ask very detail questions reqarding tenants, however, they never mention the fact that tenants homes are being invaded and cars vandlized. I had had problems myself, but I dont go around stealing or breaking into peoples property.

Thanks for the review. I haven't lived in an apt in a while so I'm unsure of where to look to find something nice but not pricey as a house. I was considering this property after my tour today but now I'm not......

I agree with the person WHY LOCK YOUR DOOR. I can not wait for my lease is up. The price of the Vanderbilt is too much for NOTHING! Looking out of my window i have seen a teenage fight (with a gun).I called the police they never showed up.Someone tryied to break in a car and a guy came out of this apartments shotting his gun in the air. Not to mention yes they do have a office who car is parked by the OFFICE not in the BACK off the apartments where the crimes happened. I am a single female with three little ones i can not wait to move out. One thing i dont like is like my rent sometimes was $838 and i paid $835 they have called me on my CELL to pay the $2. I thought that was a insult to me. I do not like them i would not let any of my family or friends move in THE VANDERBILT.

I don't know whether to laugh or be shocked at the previous response. Why should management bother you about money that you owe them just because you didn't care enough to even pay them the right amount? Because you agreed upon in a contract that YOU signed! The real insult in this is to the rest of us who actually pay our bills responsibly, not to you! I don't quite know where to begin. After reading many reviews on a wide range of apartments in the Houston area, I have come to the conclusion that most people in Houston have nothing better to do than to rant about conditions that every rental housing has (pests and noise from the neighbors) and to not seek the proper ways to resolve these situations. As for those of you who allege that management is not responsive or doesn't care about its residents, simply check how many of the comments to which the manager personally responded and offered help! As for those who think that it is management's duty to disclose the amount and type of crime on the property: it isn't! Most crimes are reported to the police and any statistics that can be disclosed can be found in public records. It is your job to research where you live in order to make sure that it is as safe as possible. As for keeping it safe, first, get to know your neighbors! The one man who was complaining about almost being robbed was the same man who was loading a weapon and preparing to assault people who had not yet broken into his house! I wonder which party is more dangerous... Second, management is not responsible for your personal belongs, you are! Considering that almost $50,000 of rental insurance coverage is less than $150 a year, if you decide to risk it and something happens, this is your own fault for not protecting your assets. In addition, vandalism to your vehicle is covered in your MANDATORY car insurance. Finally, as citizens in a community, you should work with each other AND management to form a community watch program. As the primary viewers of all that happens in the community, you have the ability to report it. If you're silent about these problems, you are only allowing them to happen to you, and if you do not watch out for your neighbors, what makes you think they will watch out for you? I can only hope that the next time someone posts a review that they do so responsibly so that those of us who are actually trying to get an accurate idea of the community don't have to trudge through all of these worthless and petty complaints.

sxytxnchk States alot of general bs. Management replying on this site to save face does not have anything to do with their work responsibilities. If crime is an issue, security should be reviewed and re-enforced. It's obvious you have nothing better to do than rant yourself (in defense of mgt. like we don't know you're a stafff member). Mgt. should inform you of any safety issues on their property as well, that is a residential property not a prize in a Cracker Jack box. And can you blame a guy for bearing arms after being approached by criminals? We are all well aware of what insurance costs and YOU are the apartments will not be paying any of our deductibles. Hope this is the responsible review you were looking for, nothing petty and/or worthless about being ROBBED or ASSAULTED!
