You know I love my very spacious apartment. I have been here since 2006 and every management team along with the staff have been very nice and approachable. I havent had any bad experiences with the faculty. My main problem that I have are some of the tentants that stay there. I swear, you give some people nice things and they dont know how to act. Im tired of the bad ass kids running around vandalizing property cause they are bored. "Im tired of the gate being broke", yeah me too oh here is a clue, if the parents would keep a grip on their rugrat wanna be gangsta children the gate wouldnt be broke. I see kids constantly squeezing thru the gate to either walk to the Texaco or neighboring apartments. I see them twisting the stop sign around because they are bored and watching cars nearly miss each other and laughing. Its funny now to them until one of their friends or themselves gets hurt. Some of those kids need a SWITCH or a BELT on their backside. The parents dont even take responsiblity for their own kids. They just let em run crazy so long they are not in the house, and thats sad. If you have this type of child send em to military school or camp before they become another statistic. Tell em to pick up a book or something. See its not the management its the tenants and the association of people they bring to the complex. I dont know maybe I stay in the a complex with a bunch of ignorant tenants because last time I checked EXIT means EXIT not ENTRANCE because the gate is open. I have had so many missed head on collisions with people its not even funny. And then they look at me like Im wrong, But I guess they cant read neither. But I bet if they started putting one-way spike strips like they have at Car Rental places, people wouldnt come thru that back gate. Last when I checked, paying rent was due on the 1st w/ a 2day grace. Note: If you dont pay rent by the due date, you get late fees. Its a easy concept and I have a solution.....PAY YOUR RENT ON TIME PEOPLE. People need to take accountablity and stop blaming everything on management. Yes there will be crime and some things you cant avoid. But if you would have some class about yourself and stop inviting people who have no respect for others to your apartment then that might help on keeping crime down. Just ask yourself one question, ask yourself "What can I do to make the community better'"

Now I do have some words of advice for the management because I do like staying at the Vanderbilt.

1). The apartments have been around since the 80's, PLEASE start renivating. My apartment has such SECOND RATE SHODDY workmanship its horrible to look at.

2). Start requiring parking permits for all tenants. I know there are garages and covers, but for those who dont have those admenities.

3). Get to know your tentants, Hold meeting sessions on Saturdays

4). please put ceiling fans in all the rooms. I mean one fan in the master bedroom is not enough. There needs to be one in the living room, and all bedrooms.

5). PLEASE PLEASE keep a steady SECURITY OFFICER on duty at night that will walk the complex and not sit in his truck all night. And KEEP him or her when crime is low. Dont get rid of the officer because crime is low,.

Oh My God! You are so right. I thought I was the only one that got looked at crazy when I was "exiting" the back gate as some lazy tenant or visitor was using it for a "entrance"! I totally agree with you that something needs to be done. And one way spike strips is an excellent idea. Plus putting whatever metal part that is missing on the left side gate to the rear exit would stop whomever from always opening that side up. I notice that's done alot when the gate is working so lazy tenants or guest with no access can enter. And you hit another nail on the head when you mentioned the Security Officer that sits in his GREEN Expedition (so you know I'm talking about the right person) more than he walks the property! And when he's not sitting in his SUV he has someone that he's talking to for extended periods of time. Bottom line, he's not doing what he's getting paid to do. Although this resident spoke on a lot of things I agree with, it was only right for me to speak on what I had experienced myself from being a resident.

Bear in mind that an officer in the parking lot will do little to avert crime. They can only respond. In my experience at the Vanderbilt, their response was pretty fast. The best defense against crime in a community is the community itself. Good luck with that though. You live in a community where the people are too lazy to walk to a gate so they break the bars to "get out" and constantly run into the unmonitored gate (so it is always broken).
